Yeah Jenner just isn’t a guy that Columbus would move unless the offer was astronomical, and then the issue would be that no one would be offering said price for him.

I generally agree with this. To me this year is New Yorks “all in” year before things get extremely tight cap wise. Even with protection on the 24 pick that’d leave 25 exposed and i can’t imagine NYRs cap situation will magically get better another year down the road ya know

I feel like with the run Kane’s had Chicago will refuse to budge on needing a 1st included somehow. Personally i think there’s less risk in the 23 1st but if they’re comfortable with giving up the 24 1st i wouldn’t be shocked either

I’m not a rangers fan per se but i think the case for including the 2023 1st would be that with as cap strapped as the rangers will be next year, they could have more risk in using that pick than 2023. At this point it’s pretty much a lock that the Dallas and NYR firsts will be later first round picks.

Korpisalo
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BCAPP</b></div><div>Yeah he's playing like a league average goaltender this year. But I'll go by his career where he's been awful. Literally the worst goalie with 150+ games played since he entered the league.</div></div>
I’m not trying to say Korpi is a top 10 NHL goalie or that the leafs should extend him… but there’s a ton of missing context behind these numbers. League average is .905 sv% (per hockey reference) this season. Korpi at .913 as of tonight. Above average there. +5.7 goals saved above expected (Jeremy Swayman is at +7.09 and Carter Hart at +5.35, and Linus Ullmark leads the league at +31.52 for context, Spencer Martin league worst at -28.53, all per hockey reference).
Career wise there’s been no denying he’s had an up and down career… the past two years he looked awful and played awful in net. 2019-20 he was the best goalie we had and an NHL all Star.
The down years were primarily due to injury but he just looked fundamentally awful in net those years. Out of position, slow, sloppy.
This year has been starkly different. He’s stayed healthy, he’s much more sound positionally and sharp in his movements in the crease. Visually he *looks* so much better in the crease. This years numbers reflect that. And that’s while been being on a truly atrocious team. My jackets couldn’t defend their way out of a wet paper bag this year.
So while his career numbers aren’t anything impressive, his play is noticeably different, he’s stayed healthy, and he’s been a difference maker. I’d say for goalie insurance for a team who *must* win a playoff series a third and late round pick is a reasonable bet for a guy who has been extremely sharp this year.

Nyquist deal makes sense, I think Korpi to Vegas the value is there (depends on the Logan Thompson Injury situation)... Gavrikov trade I'd love to get that but I don't think we can pull off the 1st AND the quality prospect. From whoever we send Gavrikov to, it's gonna be one or the other plus a mid round pick I think. If we're retaining on Roslovic I'd agree we should get more there as well for keeping the money n the books an additional year

Part of what i wonder is how Holtz is valued in NHL circles. He has the draft pedigree and the skill but at the NHL level he hasn’t put it together yet. Has had AHL success so i feel like he’s still a top prospect. At least prospect wise i don’t feel like Carolina has a guy at Holtz’s level, even though they have tremendous prospect depth it seems
A playoff shot blocker for the third pair definitely seems reasonable. If the price for Gavrikov from Columbus wasn’t so high i think there’d be a good fit there

Respectfully, if columbus got that return for boqvist I think I'd go help pack his bags for him lol. I could see something more similar to a boqvist for just futures or straight up for a guy like mittelstadt. He's a good offensive defenseman but he's been inconsistent and has had injury issues so that definitely takes some of the shine off of his value
I do think Buffalo could be a good fit for a boqvist trade though, so will be interesting to see how it all plays out IRL

I could get behind that. I honestly barely remember how Bean played early this year and it was a small sample size but he does tend to be more offensive than defensive minded. Peeke hopefully he bounces back this year. He was solid last year so hopefully this year is just a blip on the radar.

I agree with holding on to him but I don’t think he’s a long term solution anywhere down the middle. A top 3 pick this year and development by existing young players will go a long way towards solidifying the middle of the ice for us

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dk325</b></div><div>Roslovic is definitely an enigma. We've seen he can be a very good player when he puts his game together, he just cannot find consistency if his life depended on it. I think this draft could be the deciding factor on whether or not he needs to be moved out with haste. If they end up with an NHL ready player then he has to go. If it's a guy they only have to wait a year on then he's likely gone next off season anyway.
I think with Voronkov it will be a lot easier to stay up because he's the type of player that can actually still benefit from getting 8-10 mins a night in a bottom 6 role. Marchenko and KJ were really being wasted in that kind of role so it was very frustrating to watch.
I don't question Chychrun's work ethic whatsoever. It's really would just be about his desire to stick with the team long term. It's also a matter of his contract only having 2 more years left and he's due a pretty serious raise. If Jiricek is the player he's believed to be then that could cause a real conflict between new contracts for Chychrun, Jiricek, KJ, Marchenko, Sillinger and whoever they draft this year.</div></div>
The clock is ticking on roslovic for sure. Hopefully Voronkov can stick, having young players who can excel in those middle to bottom 6 roles is rare but he's played well in Russia.
In a perfect world, we get a defenseman with 3-4 years left in term but I just don't see many (any even) of those guys becoming readily available. It's a perfectly fair point regarding his extension, with Gaudreau and werenski already at nearly 10m each for 5+ years the cap situation has to be lined up to fit everyone else in.

I would rather try to attach a second to gudbranson and see if a GM is dumbe enough to take it than take a second for Zaitsev. If we are trading for chychrun he should be 2LD.</div></div>
Unfortunately I just don't see a team being dumb enough to take on Gudbranson for just a second. Plus he's got the trade clause.
Chychrun as 2LD fits too, I'd be equally comfortable Running werenski-jiricek and chychrun-bean with sliding bean to the right side on the second pair.
Peeke to me has been a confounding case this year... it feels like his play has regressed and despite injuries to most of our blueline hes been a healthy scratch multiple times now. Is that just Brad Larsen being dumb, quite possibly. But there's been a few instances this year where he's been out of position or torched defensively pretty badly. Ideally I don't want my defense to be centered solely on blocking shots, if they can break up plays before they happen that's better for everyone. I'm not hellbent on trading peeke but if we add to the defense, to me it feels like someone on the right side does have to go.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dk325</b></div><div>I just don't think Chychrun is the right fit for the Jackets. The way he has been trying to get out of Arizona makes me uncomfortable about spending a bunch of assets trying to get him onto a team that is trying to build into something. He seems like the type that isn't down for the building process.
I think space needs to be made for Voronkov immediately. His ability to play at the NHL level should be pretty clear once he steps on the ice and I think he's going to be a very impactful bottom 6 player that could give Sillinger a run for his spot in the lineup if he's not careful. If he doesn't bump him out then I think he's definitely going to be pushing for Roslovic's spot in the lineup. I'm just as hyped for the impact he's going to have on the Jackets bottom 6 as I was for the impact Marchenko was going to have on the top 6.</div></div>
I get what you're saying about Chychrun. However, he's played outstanding this year despite the rumors so it's not like he's letting it affect his play. With a legitimate NHL coaching staff leading this team I do believe that this roster with health, small UFA additions, and a NHL ready draft pick, could at least legitimately challenge for a playoff spot. To me that's much different than Arizona where they're 3-4 years from even considering playoff runs.
I strongly considered putting Voronkov in the roster. Maybe a 4th line of Kuraly-Voronkov-Tex to bring better 2 way play, energy and offense. His biggest challenge will be the waivers exempt status though, we saw that play a role early this year before injuries forced managements hands to play Marchenko.
Roslovic idk what happens with him. I don't see the point in just salary dumping him but I just don't feel like his trade value is even decent at this point. Liek it seems we'd be lucky to snag a mid round pick for him now which would be a waste of an asset given that we have no cap troubles.

I don't think the value is ridiculously far off for Columbus, but I personally wouldn't do this deal. Our blueline lacks size and quality defensive play, and Girard isn't exactly the shining model of that. Given where we're at as a team i'd rather ride it out with Bean who when healthy was one of our better defensemen. He can play that similar second pair left/right role at half the cap hit cost.
Roslovic I just find it hard to get a read on anymore. He'll have a good game and then go 4 where he has little impact, and thats with playing higher in the lineup due to injuries to others. I honestly couldn't tell you what his true value to NHL Gms is. On his good days he's worth a first maybe, on his bad he might even not be worth a waiver wire pickup. Sucks since he's our hometown kid and I'd love to see him breakthrough and find consistency to his game.

What do people think of Boqvists league wide trade value? Personally I don’t see him as a long term integral piece of Columbus’s blue line with Jiricek coming and already having quite a few other right shot d men… I think he could be included as a useful piece in a blockbuster trade still, but am not sure if that’s just Blue Jackets bias or not.
One more stud defenseman or a number one centerman prospect are the last main needs of this team long term it seems. I think at some point a trade is needed for one or the other depending on how the draft lottery falls
