Agreed. I’d be down for signing a UFA but I think it would have to be a 1-2 year deal with all of the potential extensions coming in the next few years. Just not sure how many top level UFAs would be willing to take that short of a contract.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>benjgc</b></div><div>I'm on board with a lot of what you've done here, assuming Josh is willing to sign at that price point. A couple of thoughts:
- Young players like Bemstrom, Peeke, and Foudy should be down in the AHL playing every day if they're likely to be scratched regularly. Their development will depend on regular playing time.
- Would rather sign Carlsson and have him as the seventh guy, instead of Peeke being chained to the bench behind the other RDs.
- LTIR isn't free cap space; we'd absolutely handcuff ourselves at the deadline if we went this way. I'd rather trade Murray for more than Nuti (assuming we can get more) and free up a little more room. (To that end, Nash is an expensive piece to have sitting in the press box.)</div></div>
I need to learn more about the LTIR then but I like the thoughts. Excited to see what happens with Foudy. Hope he can be a guy next year that contributes often but I do think AHL is probably for the best at least to start. If he is down Nash probably isn’t scratched then.
I can see Murray also being dealt but I think it’s going to be hard to find the value for him just due to his injury issues. He’s a great asset when healthy but his healthy stretches seem few and far between.

Trying to Actually Contend
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Bluejackets2000</b></div><div>Laine would be nice, but too expensive given the package that would be required.
(Personally I think Elvis is the weaker of the 2 goaltenders and should be traded, and I think time will reveal this...he gets too emotional when things go bad, and it effects his play).
The Jacket's problem was fourfold regarding their playoff failure:
1. They lacked a strong 2C in the playoffs, who could take the load off of Dubois and force teams to match up their lines differently
2. They lacked scoring from their top 6 talent (Texier, Bjorkstrand, Nyquist, Foligno, Jenner, & Dubois ((in the TB series)) ).
(They did get some secondary scoring here and there, but their top 9 scorers were fairly silent).
3. They lacked critical defensive presence at very key times (after the Jackets scored a key goal, as well as early in the 2nd/3rd periods when they gave up a quick goal).
4. Torts did not roll 4 lines, he shortened the bench, with the 4th line getting between 5 - 10 minutes almost nightly.
(especially after a 5 OT game in game #1, it was even more important to roll the lines to keep them fresher as the series went on, which he did not).
For success in 2020-21 season:
They need Anderson to bounce back to 15-20 goals, even with 15-20 goals, he would be a lesser but effective alternative to Laine, who would have double that output.
Originally I thought they would trade Anderson, but now I'm not so sure.
The return they could get for him or use him in a trade is fairly low vs. the benefit he could provide by having a bounce-back year while healthy.
They really need Texier to take the next step forward, as well as Foudy, to really develop and potentially take over the 2C slot.
If they do make a move, they should consider trying to sign one of either Toffoli, Hoffman, Haula, Craig Smith, or Jesper Fast.
One of these players would fill in on 2nd/3rd line with more scoring and good defensive presence, and not break the bank (Toffoli pr Hoffman obviously getting the highest contract of the 5).
Manage other parts like trading Murray, buying out or trading Wennberg (his stock might have gone up slightly with his playoff performance),
trading depth players for higher round picks, if possible, to restock picks and reduce the amount of players hanging out there with no spots available and risk losing them (Gerbe, Shore, Robinson, Lilja, Stenlund, Carlsson, Harrington, Kukan, etc.).</div></div>
I like a little fire in my goalie and I personally like Elvis a little more. Both will be really good NHL goalies though. If I remember correctly to the beginning of the season (700 months ago), Korpi had some stick smashing reactions too after some tough breaks. I think the emotion is good in spots and Manny/Torts can help them get it under control.
Tex looked great in the bubble and hopefully he continues to take a step forward next season. Foudy looked good too and showed confidence on the puck in stretches. I think he can grow into that 2C role and when he does, it will be a big boost for the team.
I'm guessing that Anderson won't want to resign here this offseason. I hope he does and can get back to where he was before his injury, but if he wants to go elsewhere, hopefully we can get a pick or two back.
Not sure what the value of Murray is but considering his injury history, I can't see too many teams taking a chance on him unless they can get him for cheap. Not sure it is worth it for the Jackets at the point. Wennberg is another one too, with his lack of consistency and contract, its going to be tough to find a trade partner. Retaining some of his salary might not be worth it compared to buying him out.
Thanks for the input!

I get it, I definitely over value having a reliable back-up. Where do you think this deal fits?

My New Jacket
He's only 26 and I like the potential he still has even though it hasn't paid off yet. This season has to be do or die for him though. Maybe should be a one or two year deal but I like the way he plays.
