That's the thing. I didn't really notice him. So okay I guess? I mean he must've done well defensively or else I would've noticed his mistakes. But offensively I don't remember him creating any chances, cycling OR even forechecking.
I did notice Mar Jo. He was...rusty we'll call it. Mental lapses defensively. Didn't move the needle offensively. In fact, he turned the puck over in the offensive zone a few times. Just not a great performance from him

Game 1
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JayTea</b></div><div>NHL.com's summary of players making their debut, aside from Kaprizov.
"Bonino was 13-for-20 on face-offs, <strong>Johansson had one hit in 17:29 of ice time</strong>, and Bjugstad had one shot and one hit in 13:27"
So we acquired Johansson for his grit, right? Please? lol</div></div>
My thoughts are:
-Damn Kaprizov is good.
-Fiala may not have scored but he sure was effective offensively. I also think the bad ice slowed Fiala down or else he would've had an even bigger impact on the game.
-Talbot was ok. Shaky at parts, but settled in by the 3rd period
-Greenway looked to impose his will physically. Hope to see more of that and see the results pay off!
-All new additions not named Kaprizov were non-existent. I'll give them a pass since this is like preseason for all of them. But they need to mesh, and quickly.
-We NEED to be better in the faceoff circle. That was brutal to watch most critical draws go LA's way.
-And to finish it off: Damn Kaprizov is good.

Ironically, that start of that explosion occurred against the Hawks no less. Ever since that game last year, he's consistently brought the energy to this lineup every night. Sure there's been games that he's pressed too hard and turned over pucks as a result. But there's no denying that Fiala is the force that drives our offense (well Kaprizov might join him after last night's performance).
So with that being said, I agree, Fiala is worth that contract

Training Camp Lines
I will add that the 4th line should be a pretty good defensive line as well here. Won't see a ton of scoring but should be a decent checking line with Hartman and Sturm. And who knows, maybe Rask can find some semblance of his old game (which was actually decent).

Captain Spurgeon
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JayTea</b></div><div>Not really a surprise. Spurgeon is a fantastic player signed long term, good move imo.
While I always thought Parise was going to be the next captain, crying to the media about only having so many chances is generally a bad leader move.</div></div>
100% agree. Although I still think Parise would make a heck of a captain, his uncertain future after speaking to the media would make me question (from a players perspective) how much he really wants to be there? Or will he want to jump ship if we continue to lose? Definitely need a captain who's 100% committed and that seems to be Spurgeon. I like the pick.

Minnesota Wild 2021 season preview
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OutCold13</b></div><div>I'll take 2020 playoffs Talbot. If Wild get that then they could be a dangerous team. I am concerned about the system changes under Dean as Wild may not be as sound defensively, however they are bringing in a more aggressive offensive system so that is exciting.</div></div>
I hope we can get consistency out of him. I don't mind the signing but without seeing him in action with our team in front of him, I'm not sure what to make of him. Season's just around the corner so I'll guess we'll see soon enough!

Minnesota Wild 2021 season preview
My goal for the year as this: Youth improvement and Reviving Veterans.
Greenway, Fiala, Kaprizov, Ek, Addison (maybe), Rossi (maybe), and Kakhonen (although in backup role) all will need to step up if we are to move forward as a franchise. I think Rossi will make the team, but they may want him to develop another year in Switzerland. Addison is unlikely to make the team but I would still love to see him fight for a spot.
As for the veterans, they know their roles. Bonino, Johansson, and Bjugstad were all brought in to shake things up while still providing players who, when healthy and at top form, can play really well. The key is "when healthy and at top form." What players are we getting? Only time will tell. All players know that, with one year left, this is their opportunity to showcase that they're worthy assets to a team.
If both those two things happen, we'll be fine. But here's where I see us:
Offense: Average. This can change quickly if Kaprizov clicks right away and Fiala picked up where he left off. But we'll have to wait and see on that. If they aren't able to carry the load offensively, we'll have a hard time competing.
Defense: Elite. I'm biased but we are elite defensively. Good in our own zone, good with puck movement, I could sing our praises all day...the only (and biggest) question is...
Goaltending: ? That's right. I have no clue. What Cam Talbot are we getting? I hope to God it's the pre-2018 Talbot. If it's post-2018 Talbot, may God have mercy on our souls...
Anyways, my prediction is that we finish 6th in the Division. I hope I'm wrong but that's how I feel.

Honestly, probably just an AHL signing. We already have a ton of defensemen at the ready. This is probably just to help fill out the AHL roster.

They'll probably protect Kappo and expose Talbot/Stalock. Unless I'm wrong, the 8 Skater option is 8 + 1 for goalie. So no need to entice Seattle.

Love this deal. 2-Way for 1st year. 1-Way for 2nd. Avoids arbitration and assures Kakhonen we're moving in his direction. Assures Stalock that he's either going to get traded before contract's up in 2022 or he'll just become a free agent.

He's not Jack Johnson bad but he's still not great. I think people are looking at his +3 and thinking he had a good season last year. That's all Hellebuyck. The analytics prove otherwise.

Hasn't really been tested yet but not one pro season over 3 GAA. Definitely worth a contract to see what you can get out of him. Good signing for a rebuilding team that needs goaltending.

That's a tough one. I like Krug a heck of a lot more than Barrie but in case it doesn't work out, Barrie will command less term and AAV. I'd probably go with him on a short term while your prospects develop some more. If it's a fit, extend. If not, let him go. But, yeah, why let Dermis go? You could've even offered him a $900,000 deal and I would've said it's a good deal for New Jersey. I don't get this move by them.

Maybe, maybe not. It all depends on Pateryn's health. Pateryn can't go? Then it's Belpedio vs. Dermis. I wasn't kidding about how good the Iowa Wild should be. Regardless of what happens, the Iowa Wild should be better because of this signing. Either directly or indirectly.
