Those really aren't the things that will determine the cost of moving Matheson.
A. his play, which has been pretty good.
B. lack of defense in the league.
Those are the two biggest factors. Fact is Matheson has quietly put together 2 years of getting out of his one really bad year. You add that to a league that just doesn't have enough good defensemen and has a new team taking up 6 more of them, and you a demand > Supply. Demand was already much greater than supply which is why you see guys like Jack Johnson still getting contracts. Teams just can't find enough defense, especially as injuries take hold. You got teams like BOS who still have a hole at LD. They aren't the only one either.
If there were enough guys to go around it wouldn't be so, but it is.
Those are always going to be the two biggest factors. Right now they favor them moving him.
Too many people on here act like he's a cap dump. They were the same people crying Gudbranson costs a 1st to more, for the same reasons. He returned a pick. Given a late one, but he returned one.
Matheson, is a much better player than Guddy is. It's not going to cost that to move him. They will probably get something in return for him unless he goes to Seattle for nothing.
Seattle is gonna leave a lot of teams with holes in defense. If Seattle doesn't select him, there will be teams looking for defense and not finding it.
