They want: a first, a top prospect (way better than Mesar) and a roster player

My dream deadline
Why would CBJ take a veteran on an expiring deal like Smith in exchange for their captain, signed for 4 more years at a reasonable cap hit? Also, Boston would be better keeping Smith as a depth piece since he has been around for a long time and is very appreciated in the locker room. Plus, they will need this 3 millions to resign Pastrnak and Swayman.

1. He’s not a center.
2. He doesn’t bring more 5 on 5 scoring.
3. The third line is good as is. Domi shouldn’t be dressing if he’s in Boston</div></div>
1. He can play center or wing (he has a 55,48 FOW %, good for 18th in the league, which is better than both Krejci and Coyle)
2. He is the Hawks points leader so he'd defintely bring some more offense 5 on 5 (he wouldn't even have powerplay time unless someone gets injured)
3. Domi makes our bottom 6 way better and way deeper. Having Frederic on the 4th would be a luxury.

Explain to me how the Chicago deal makes Boston worse. Domi brings even more depth scoring, speed and toughness.</div></div>

He's not just a rental, you can go ahead and trade him after the season is over and get some assets back. Not only that, but he's also on track for 43+ goals this season. Playing the best hockey of his life at 26. The market starts at an grade-A prospect, 1st round pick, and a young, promising NHL player.</div></div>
Dude, do you really think Boston could afford to give him his QO? Not at all. If we trade for him, we will have no choice but let him walk out because we need all our money to extend Pastrnak and Swayman.

For a rental that's a fair price. I agree SJ will get better offers from other teams.

Good luck signing Debrincat long term.
Who wants Hamonic? I haven't heard anything on him since the begining of the season.
And how would you know Hamonic is not getting traded?
He's a pending UFA on a team that is missing the playoffs.</div></div>

The overpay is real, but seriously, Bruins could use Meier as a rental. Something like Smith, 1st and Beecher could get it done IMO.

Just think. Who would it be more useful to retain on (think of the possible return for each player)? Debrincat (40 goal scorer), Talbot (35 yrs old washed goalie) or Hamonic (spoiler he ain't getting traded).

Plus if you take out Puljujarvi and the retention on Debrincat, Edmonton will be about 3 millions over the cap.
Also, saying Puljujarvi is the dealbreaker would be delusionnal when the others players involved are Debrincat and Bouchard.
