They caught magic in a bottle these past playoffs. It’s extremely difficult recreating a long playoff run, and they barely beat an injured Avalanche team this year. Now Colorado is even better, I just can’t see the Stars getting past them again.

Pastranak and Mackinnon are signed for similar AAV with more term left, so I wouldn't go that far, but it is a great contract and probably the best way to deal with RFAs pushing for near UFA type values on longer term deals.

Cf put out a tweet saying there is no rule against it. The rule only existed for compliance buyouts

My understanding is that it was only compliance buyouts that had the one year rule. Regular buyouts can occur at any time and you can sign the player after if you want.
The reason it was one year with compliance buyouts is that they didn't want a team buying somebody out and signing them for cheap the next day.
