Might be the worst trade of the deadline. What is Boston doing? Peeke is in buyout territory and they actually gave up value for him.

(OTT/FLA) - Tarasenko for 2024 4th (FLA), 2025 3rd (FLA)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NorthernLeafsFan05</b></div><div>This is laughably bad for the Senators, they couldn't even pry a decent prospect out of Florida. I get that the trade protection on Tarasenkos deal allowed him to dictate where he went, but that doesn't change the fact that this trade is horrible. For crying out loud, Anthony Mantha cost the Knights more than this.
This is highway robbery for the Panthers who add another lethal offensive weapon to their already loaded forward group. At only 2.5m, he is going to be extremely valuable. If they want to buy more, they easily could (granted they don't have the money). This was a masterclass of a trade from Zito and a complete blunder by Staios</div></div>

You make this deal all day imo. Elite skater and he's actually a king of defensive positioning. He's always in the right spot, and he rarely ever makes mistakes. He's a great puck mover and has much more to give offensively. Maybe there's some risk I guess, but to me it's the same as the Stützle deal. People questioned that deal at the time, and the team was immediately proven right. I don't think you're paying him less than that next summer.

Its certainly risky, but its about par for the course in the modern NHL. You pay for what you think a player will do over the term of the deal - not what theyve done so far.
Clearly they like him. I'm not totally convinced myself though.
Edit: I think I'm going to vote yes for the same reason I voted No on Miro's deal.
OTT sucks, so there is little opportunity cost lost by locking him up compared to bridging.
Still don't see how he could have gotten much more if they waited a year though, and that would have helped lower the risk a tad

I dont see how this is a bad deal. Even if Tarasenko regresses (a definite possibility) its 1 year, and theres not alot of other targets that this money could have been spent on. The upside of this deal is pretty obvious

As for the player himself, this feels a little high. He's got injury issues, but when he's in the lineup he's great. 50 points in 69 games. I don't think he's the goal scorer he used to be with just 18 goals last year. Really confused as to why they didn't just re-sign Cat.</div></div>
Did you miss the part where Debrincat said he wouldn't re-sign in Ottawa? LOL

I think Yzerman did brilliantly.
You get Cat at under 8M for what will likely be his most productive years. Let someone else pay him for 8 years when this contract is done.

(OTT/DET) - DeBrincat for Kubalik, Sebrango, 2024 4th (DET), 2024 1st (DET)
<strong>Yzerman was patient, used his leverage and got the deal he wanted, signing Debrincat to a reasonable deal (even if the term is a little short). </strong>. I would be annoyed if I was a Sens fan. Kubalik is a UFA next year, plus a prospect, 1st and 4th. The Sens gave up a high 1st (7th overall) 2nd (39th overall) and 3rd to acquire him. This was a loss for Ottawa but Dorian's hands were tied as Debrincat would only sign in certain markets.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CoraStorm</b></div><div>Salvage a disaster. The problem existed when you traded, got him, and didn't want to make him key component - you gave monies to Giroux and Stutzle. Shame on you. You want me to be happy because your division competitors dictate whether you can have Boston's 25 first round pick or Detroit's 2024 and your competitor who's trying for the same playoff spots get to decide.??? What a Joke.</div></div>
I couldn't imagine a more off point analysis. Didn't want to make him a key component? He was top 6, 1st pp. Have you seen Stutzle play? Yes you pay your #1 C first and if your hometown(ish) star veteran wants to come play for you, you make it happen. Debrincat simply didn't want to be in Ottawa or Canada for that matter, that's why it didn't happen.
And actually having a pick within our division is great imo, the more the sens beat them the better the pick is.

Wow</div></div>
Have to argue that value wise it’s not much less than what the sens gave up to get cat. 1st in a weak draft is going to be worth only a little less than the 1st the sens receive. 4th+sebrango+Kubalik easily equals a 2nd and 3rd

It’s a pretty good trade for all sides. The Sens cap picture is clearer. Plus you aren’t as top heavy as before in your forward group. Depth scoring is addressed. The prospect pool is added too. And Detroit gets their man who will score a lot.
