Even if Zucc waived I still wouldn't do it since Zucc had great chemistry with Kaprizov. But on paper it makes sense

Deal actually makes a reasonable amount of sense. Just not sure Winnipeg gives up on Dubois so quickly and not sure Buffalo wants to trade one headcase for another.
Prpbably going to need a backup goalie and a full roster though so money doesn't work as is.

Huge overpayment for Kapanen. Could offersheet him at 4mil and Leafs likely couldn't match. Compensation would be a 2nd I think??

Exactly why the only notable top-4 RD the Stars should target this offseason is Anton Stralman. Give him a 2-year deal and then by the time the expansion rolls around, his contract is over.
The other short-term solution is to trade for a RD. Teams that may be dealing with Cap issues would be the ideal choices. Assuming they sign Karlsson, trying to get Braun from San Jose is a target. You've also got Colin Miller in Vegas and Matt Niskanen in Washington that could be solid short-term fixes. The expansion draft is really going to change how teams approach the next couple of offseasons.

With no big expiring contracts how to Morrissey and Niku get paid the following season? Overpaying for your own RFA...sounds like a Dubas plan. Don't do it.

bye bye picks
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Bcarlo25</b></div><div>let zucc walk, he isn't worth that bounty of picks.</div></div>
The only one that is dictated by him walking or signing is the 2020 pick and if they feel as though he will be the guy to get them over the hump then they will sign him, if they dont feel that way then they won't sign him. I will tell you though that if they make it past the second round and have a shot at the cup, they will more than likely try to keep the squad together which means resigning him.

Hopeful Dallas Stars 2018-2019 Roster
1) You're missing a few key pieces in terms of unsigned RFA's. Sign Smith, Elie, Heatherington all to bridge deals.
2) Move Spezza. Very good chance he either gets bought out or traded (depending on whether he waives his NTC)
3) There are better options than Kovalchuk out there. Much rather go after guys like JVR, Perron, Nash, or Neal.
4) Defense is fine. I'd rather have a veteran defenseman in the press box than a young guy like Heatherington
5) Of the RFA's you do have signed, the contracts look accurate, with the exception of Janmark's. You undervalue him here by roughly $750K. Give him a bump in salary and add a year to that deal, and you're in the right ballpark. Add a year to Johns' contract as well. He's played well enough to forgo the standard 2-year bridge deal.

Spitballing ideas
No offense, but why in the world would we trade Honka for Mike Green? Honka is one of the brightest defensive prospects in the NHL. He played 15 games in the NHL last year and was our best defenseman. Better than Klingberg. He's going to get heavy minutes this year and needs to stay on this team. He's about as untouchable of a prospect as it gets.
Detroit is going to be a tire fire next year and there's no need to help them out by taking on their worst contracts.

Fair trade???
Based on what I've seen from Nill, I'm not sure he'd be willing to deal that many high-end assets in a trade like that. Swapping 1st rd'ers for Arz to move up + Nichushkin & maybe one other asset might make sense. Understood Ekman-Larsson would be a costly asset, but given all teams losing 1 asset to Vegas I'm not sure Nill would do a 5 for 2 deal as well. There's certainly merit to the fit for Dallas, I just believe the deal would have to be structured differently, and likely for both sides to agree.

The trade for 3rd overall
Not trying to sound harsh, but VAN fans can't get over the fact that DAL isn't using #3 pick to shed goalie contracts. I know VAN fans love Tanev, but Heiskanen has so much more upside at 3 in which case DAL can just sign UFA to 2 or 3 year deal until he's ready. It's nice to see offers for #3, but man everyone includes the goalie contracts

Dallas-Vancouver big trade
Way too much for Dallas to give up, they'd probably rather a year of Lehtonen than five of Ericsson, plus Tanev isn't worth the number three overall plus the Anaheim pick and a second. I think Ericsson and Tanev for Lehtonen and the Anaheim pick and two second's. That Eriksson contract is way worse than Lehtonen's and Tanev is good, but not number three overall good. Maybe this isn't fair, but I don't think I'm being biased, maybe lose one of the second's and add the rights to Nichushkin, but I'm not sure.

Alzner will definitely get $5mil in FA. He is not gonna put up strong offensive numbers but he is very solid defensively and will play at least 20 minutes a game. I also would suggest not trading Esa Lindell
