I'll keep our first, keep Gardiner and let him walk, or trade him for picks and prospects before i do this deal.
If im Columbus and i know Panarin is leaving at the end of the year i would do this deal in a second.</div></div>
exactly why I think its a good deal. I dont want to lose gardiner for nothing this offseason and panarin is a better player than willy. on columbus he is the best offesive player on the jackets and puts up ppg. on the leafs he would be tied with marner for 3rd and playing with matthews would be scary. With the zaitsev trade happening in the offseason i think that trade would turn the leafs into the best team in the league at the time.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>arousedcat</b></div><div>I know, and you're right the Leafs shouldn't touch him if he didn't sign a contract but I just don't think Panarin would sign that deal. I could see some teams willing to pay him $2M more than that in free agency. Does he value money or winning a cup more? Who knows.
Wheeler isn't a good comparable since he's 32 while Panarin is 27. A 5 year gap is a lot and Panarin is in his prime years while Wheeler is nearing the end of that period. That 5 year gap alone makes Panarin at least $1M more than Wheeler, if not even more.</div></div>
I somewhat disagree as i believe wheeler is a better player which makes up for the gap. His comparables for me are he's not as good as sequin and isnt a center and seguin signed just under 10. I would use kuch but his was tooo team friendly. Draisaitl signed at the same cap hit but is a center and isnt quite as good. 36 goal scorer JVR signed for 7 mil in the ufa market. pacioretty signed for 7 mil and is seen as a 30 goal scoring winger at the time of the signing. panarin also said he wanted to play in a big market and whats a bigger market than toronto. I think he would take the deal if not i would push him to 9 mil max and move one of johnsson or lindholm for a player on a minimum contract to fit under.

its a cap dump for the leafs but zaitsev is still a solid player that would entice a team like the rangers. if anything the pick can be made like a 4th but its basically a 3rd line penalty killer and a number 4 defenceman on a bad but not terrible deal for a middle 6 forward and a pick.
re
fast retained so his cap hit is 1.5 mil (like 275000 retained) and a 4th for zaitsev and brown. if I were the rangers i would jump all over that. win for both teams in imo

Whats the price tag on Kaprizov
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>arousedcat</b></div><div>He has expressed that he intends to come here in 2 years, so there isn't really any worry. In fact, I think it's actually benefiting him since he won't be thrown to the dogs in the NHL and can develop a couple years in the KHL.
To answer you question OP, I don't think there is a price. He's pretty much an untouchable piece unless the team trading for him overpayed (something like Dahlin, Petterson, Matthews, etc...) which isn't happening. It would take an extremely enticing offer for Fenton to move him. Fenton was actually in Russia last week meeting Kaprizov for the first time and he spoke incredibly high praise of Kaprizov. It would be very odd for them to have just met and have a good experience together for Fenton to turn around and immediately trade him. What kind of message would that send not only to Kaprizov, but also to future draft picks by the Wild? The answer is a very bad one...</div></div>
did you just bring up kaprizov in the same sentence as matthews and dahlin? hes not even ppg in the KHL. He is a good player but he is not elite the KHL is a league somewhere between the AHL and NHL skill wise. Kaprizov is most likely a 60 point 20 goal player in the NHL he has potential to be better but also hasnt proven anything in the nhl. He also isnt much of a prospect anymore at the age of 21 and his fourth season in the KHL we somewhat know what we are getting with him. his value would be around a young 50-60 point NHLer in my opinion as he has a chance to be better than that and a chance to be worse.

Carolina Nylander Front Runners
pesce zykov and a 1st lottery protected is a great deal for both teams. we asssume the canes will be a playoff team this year with willy and if not this year the pick would become next years first un protected and next year svechnikov will get better necas and fleury will be up so that pick is at best 15-20 overall. now zykov is a solid bottom 6 forward just sort of a roster guy to increase depth not a big loss for carolina. pesce is just a solid stay at home top 4 defensman. Carolina is dealing from a place of strength in which they have 3 top 4 RHD so i think this deal benefits both teams. If the pick is a second the deal isnt strong enough for the leafs as muzzin is a better defensman and LA are willing to trade him in a deal but with the 1st they could use that at the deadline to pick up another game breaker while adding a still solid defensman.

matthews isnt going to leave he seems to be loving toronto he helped convince JT to come to toronto. He wouldnt care this much about the team if he was going to bail 5 years down the road.

lets look at it this way
mackinon=eichel+nylander . buffalo wins this trade by a little bit
landeskog=mittlestad . buffalo wins this by a good amount
rantanen=dahlin . avs win this trade by a little amount
in conclusion i think buffalo wins this by a decent amount but prolly only a first round pick away from equal value and with the amount of value on the table thats not that far away.

Nylander Offer Sheet
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CaptainFlynnt</b></div><div>Colorado has $12M in cap space right now. After making this deal they would have $4M. Wilson and Varlomov are both UFA's next year which gives them $10M to work with. The cap will probably rise another $4M. So that's $18M to resign Kerfoot, Ranatanen, Compher, and replace/resign Varlamov and Wilson. Soderbergs $4.75M will be off the books the following year as well.
Edit:
$1M saved from the Orpik buyout and $1.5M off the next year as well.</div></div>
yes but varlamov will want 5 rantanen-10 kerfoot and compher 2-3 each wilson is gone dont forget nemeth and zadorov need new deals after this year. it just doesnt make sense for colorado. they have a great young team no need to overpay for winger who isnt as good as your best RW.

all of this is because of his gready dad. they think he can get 8 mil. if colorado did this they would put themselves in a cap crunch as rantanen compher kerfoot all come off the books. i dont think colorado would want to do this anyways.

Nylander Offer Sheet
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CaptainFlynnt</b></div><div>Sorry everyone
I was unaware that the average value used for compensation was the total salary divided by a max of 5 years.. new offer 5 years (or less) instead of 7, compensation is now a 1st, 2nd, and a 3rd.
Again just for fun, but what would Toronto do?
Edit:
This would work even better for Colorado I think, they can overpay in salary $8.1M x 4 years, and they would still have Nylanders RFA rights when this deal expires.. if they want to resign him they could do so at a more reasonable price ($8M is an intentional overpayment for Nylander) or they can cut ties with him via a trade and get full return for the assets they gave up in the offersheet. If I was Colorado I would do this.
If I was any playoff team that has available cap space I would do this. Everyone here would agree that Nylander is worth more than a later 1st, 2nd, and 3rd round pick (later round picks because they are playoff teams).
Colorado has the cap space just do it.</div></div>
willy still has to sign it and he wants long term (more than 5 years) at 8. Colorado will have to overpay and give up a lot of unprotected picks for willy.

signing everyone and improving the team
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Random2152</b></div><div>I think the others have made it quite well known their gripes with this, so I will attempt to take a more constructive approach.
I will start with what I like:
I think you got the aav for Kapanen and Johnsson pretty much bang on. The only thing I would change is that for that aav, Kapanen gets 3 years. The rule (for both Kappy and Johnsson) would be as follows: 1-1.99 million = 2 years, 2-2.99 million = 3 years, 3-3.5 million = 4 years.
Just a tip when using the site, when you are trying to put a player on LTIR, instead of trading them, move them to the LTIR slot. It is in the 3rd blue bar, just below the goalies when you are building the ACGM.
On to the other things:
I think you are off on some of the contracts here, by a decent amount too.
Matthews needs to win at least 2 trophies to get that aav, and minimum 1 to get 12. He will likely get something like 8 years @ 11aav.
Marner I cannot see going over 8 years @ 8aav. He is a damn good player, but woth his comparables and his production, that is roughly his max.
Never give your backup goalie that much term and that much aav, it is a recipe for disaster. Sparks will get about 800k on a one or two year contract.
As much as it pains me, I don't think Leivo is coming back, and even if he is, it won't be for that much. It will likely be just under 1 million, or somewhere around there.
Ozhiganov and Lindholm have played well since coming over, and I hope we resign them. I think they get matching contracts: 2 years @ 1.5 aav, or somewhere around there.
If Rosen makes this team next year, it will be as an extra, and he will accept his qualifying offer, as no one will offer anything else. While I do not know for sure what that would be, CapFriendly says his salary will be 0.925 aav should that happen.
If we are bringing back Marincin, it will be as an extra, so only ever 1 year for the term.
Ennis will not be back. Either he doesn't work out, and we don't want him, or he does and we cannot afford him. We have better guys on the Marlies anyway.
Edit: I will link some ACGM cap charts to help you with the big 3:
<a href="https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/877874">https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/877874</a>
<a href="https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/884206">https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/884206</a> <-- Just a warning, this one is incomplete, but still has valuable information.
On the trades:
Gardiner will likely get the same treatment as JVR and Bozak did last year. He will play out the end of his contract as we try to make a run, and will likely leave as a UFA. I think that if Dubas somehow makes it work, they want to re-sign him. I also think that you do not know who the prospect you traded him for is (he is good).
On the Nylander trade, there are three big things. The first is that Ristolinen is a similar player to Jake Gardiner. If we wanted that, we would just keep Jake.
The 2nd thing is that Nylander is worth much more than Risto, so you would be selling yourself short. This trade would look like Hall for Larsson very quickly.
The third thing is that Buffalo, like Toronto, needs Dmen, and won't trade one of their more experienced ones. When making trades, you have to factor in what the receiving team needs as well.</div></div>
I think your a little off with matthews contract. Im basing it off how dominant hes been and i believe he is going to win the rocket this year. Also trophies have nothing to do with anything there nice but does william karlson get 12 mil because he won something. Also matthews has a calder and if he wins the rocket will have 2 trophies. as for marner i anticipate a big year around 70+ points and if nylander thinks he can get 8 mil for his production then marner will probably want 10 as for what he gets i would say he deserves 8.5mil. personally i would like them at 19 mil combined but i cant see matthews looking at what eichel got and mcdavid got and not asking for close to if not mcdavids contract (which wasnt even the max).
