see the thing about offer sheets is the player actually has to sign it. In what world does marner take 8.1 million and the leafs dont offer him atleast 9 long term?

"1st round pick: Draft smart!" Now we just have to hope for Muzzin to suck and for the Leafs to bomb in the playoffs so the pick is 15-20 overall and not 28-31.</div></div>
top 6 means like bottom pairing top 4 means second pairing or top pairing in certain scenarios top pairing d men means top pair d man and elite means they are probably the best d man on the team. exceptions are san jose who has 2 elite defensmen and a top pairing defensman so someone has to not be on that top pair

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TanSor</b></div><div>I have to wonder if Nylander or Kapanen could be traded... I get Dubas has said he won't trade Nylander and that Kapanen and Liljegren aren't available, but with this trade something has to give. Maybe you buy out Marleau? I don't know, it seems odd even though I do like this trade for both the Leafs and the Kings.</div></div>
Ive said it once and ill say it again marleaus contract is set up to be traded this offseason. 6.25 mil would be able to give kapanen an extra mil and marner/matthews the extra 2 mil they will probably get

well he is top 10 in league scoring i hope he signs for less but leverage being if eichel is worth 10 millions and matthews gets his bag of money hell probably want the same contract as eichel

they arnt basically i see it as nylander for muzzin and gardiner as trading willy allows them to keep gardiner.

with the salary retained probably but trades dont always get equal value back. I think the leafs lose this trade in player value but gain 5 million in crucial cap space. Id do it personally if it means we can keep gardiner kappy and johnsson

that is losing people though you have to give up some of the future to get both off the books + if you decide to keep stralman you lose someone else instead. I think tampa will still be one of the best teams in the league but they wont have a team this good for a while. Tampa will lose a few impact players once the young guys need contracts but will still be good for like 10 years +. They probably win the cup this year though as I dont see a team that can match up both offensively defensively and goaltending wise as the other top tier contenders nashville winnipeg toronto san jose all have a hole or two at the moment. toronto falls off in defense nashville doesnt have the offense winnipeg goaltending and a bit defense and sanjose if jones gets it figured out dont have the offense. but its hockey and anything can happen in a playoff series

my theory behind it is that the way the contract is set up is a tradable contract

Marleau will be traded this summer
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MG1986</b></div><div>Marleau will not be traded at all. First, he has a NMC, meaning he would have to approve a deal anyway. Second, he is looking for a Stanley Cup, so why would he agree to go a worse team in the Ducks? He's moved his entire family to the city already from Cali, and now you want to send him back. He will play out his final year in Toronto, then retire and get hired by the Leafs in some sort of Player Development role.
As for Marchment, awful awful awful. Let's see what this kid can do before we ship him off. He's having a great year in the AHL and he'd be one of those cheap depth forward options the Leafs will desperately need in the fold after this season when some big contracts start kicking in.</div></div>
Hes too far in the depth chart. He wont make the team over any of moore, grundestrom, bracco, brooks.

What do you EDM fans want for Larsson in 2019 preseason
if the leafs wanted larsson the starting point is kapanen. after that probably throw in a second and you have a deal. the oilers best RW rn is caggula or puljijarvi. kapanen would slide in nice with mcdavid (fastest duo in the league) and could be a 30+ goal scorer with mcdavid. I dont think they bite on a package they want a good player back themselves and zaitsev and brown just arnt good enough imo for them to genuinly believe the trade would benefit their team.

the problem with faulk is carolina would need either johnsson or kapanen in the deal as they arnt looking for picks and prospects they want young forwards who can play. I would be ok with doing kappy and like a second or third or johnsson and a first for faulk 50% retained but if the leafs were to go all in this year i would rather keep the forward group as is and use non roster assets to get the solid top 4 rhd to push them over the edge.

basically since they signed willy they had 1 too many contracts and need to waive someone or trade someone. since dermott can be sent down without the need to clear waivers it buys them time until their game on tuesday to make a trade or send down one of holl marincin or gauthier.

Im farely sure they set up the contract to trade him after this year and he is also aware of this he just wanted the extra money as he wont get 6.25mil if he signed a 2 year deal. Idealy they win the cup this year and he waives his NMC in the offseason.

they have liljegren and sandin both under 20 defencman playing well in the AHL as well as carl grundestrom who looks to be a solid top 9 forward for them next year the way he is playing this year. they most likely trade a forward (brown, kappy, johnnson) and a 1st for a solid 4th dman like pesce and theyll be fineeeeeee

based on his season so far he still needs to develop. his offense is good enough to be in the league right now but his defense still needs work. He developed fast last year who says he doesnt do it again but ideally i think this year is an all in next year depending on the defense they are competitive next year but not as good then the year after is when lilly and sandin are ready and marleau is off the books could be their best chance at a cup 50 years if this year isnt it already.

assumin columbus ends up choosing to retool after losing panarin either at the deadline or free agency

Nylander deal options - 8 7 6 5 and 3 years
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jamiepo</b></div><div>So here is the issue.... any savings on cap hit year two and on come directly out of nylanders pocket. If he is paid bonus in year 1 we do not get the savings in year two plus, if we pay in salary he is set to lose over 2m dollars.
Think of it this way, on a 6 year deal we could probably at nylander 7m with no bonus and save 150k this in year two plus (6.85m) or just pay him 6.6m with max bonus in year one and not take the huge cap hit this year and nylander makes the same amount of money either way...</div></div>
youre wrong. since nylander if he signed today is only playing the next 58 games or so he is still getting paid say 6.9mil over a shorter span making his cap hit larger than the money he made. he still gets his money but the inflated cap space in year 1 would lower the following years. if he signed a 2 year 7 mil contract today his first years cap hit would be like 9.5 mil and the second would be like 4.5 mil. crazy.
