see the thing about offer sheets is the player actually has to sign it. In what world does marner take 8.1 million and the leafs dont offer him atleast 9 long term?

Not to be bummer but:

1. Toronto matches as Marnwr is getting 9.5 to 10.5 milluon

2. You have to give up a 1st, a 2nd and a 3rd round pick in the next draft, so you can not sign him before the 2019 draft as you do not have a 2nd round pick, so you would have to sign him after the draft and give up 3 picks in the 2020 draft.
