Funny.. didn‘t we say the same thing about Dougie? Look how that‘s gone..
GMTF giving up assets like you‘re proposing here essentially get him fired if we experience something similar to this season.
I‘m still pretty optimistic about our future. I also still think that Dougie will help us become relevant again. Finally, I‘d love Tkachuk wearing a Devils jersey but at this price it‘s just unrealistic.

No way Fitzgerald does 2OA + Holtz-.I don't see him putting in Mercer either, but because his ceiling is lower it might be a possibility. At the end of the day you still have to give to get...
Personally, I don't see Tkachuk getting traded this offseason. If he wants out he'll just accept his QO and go to free agency in 2023.

NJD 2223
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Kartana</b></div><div>With that logic New Jersey can just trade him away at the TDL. Also, we can get players in other ways, without giving up picks. We can probably even get players and picks at the same time.</div></div>
Now, if you look at our depthchart up front we're in a situation where we have to much forwards and need to cut some - after all NJD and ARI are not in the same state of their respective rebuilds anymore. And to your 2nd point: Apparently ARI is looking for cheap forwards and Johnsson is just that. And yes, you might be able to get players without trading picks away but that doesn't necessarly mean that it's "unrealistic" or that it "doesn't make sense" to do so.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Kartana</b></div><div>Why do all Devils' AGM have Johnsson for Arizona's 3rd? Makes no sense for Arizona. We aren't throwing away our picks. If anything, we are looking for more.</div></div>
2 Things to this:
- You're not "throwing away" the pick when you're picking up a player you can insert into your line up. After all, you still need players to play for you.
- With inflated priced at the trade deadline you're probably going to be able to get more back than you spent in the first place.

Trying to be realistic on Fiala
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RazWild</b></div><div>He's a RFA, not UFA. He has no say in where he goes. GM's will simply inquire as to whether he'd be willing to sign long-term.
AND GIVEN HE'S WANTED A LONG-TERM CONTRACT FOR THE LAST 4 YEARS.
If it's offered at his asking price, he'll sign.
And your theory only works if there are only two teams asking.
There'll be more than that. The more teams asking the better for Guerin and for Fiala.</div></div>
You are right that Fiala has no say in where he goes. But like the Devils, no GM will trade premium assets if he doesn't know whether he can extend the player or not.
So the bidding war is only on if Fiala shows clear intentions to sign with a potential suitor - otherwise the price will stay low (or lower at least).
Not the best example here, but still with some similarities is the Hall trade from BUF to BOS. Hall, due to his NMC, had the right to limit the market and thus the price was kept low. Same principle with Fiala as long as he isn't open to resign with multiple teams (that also do have the assets MIN wants).

Sharangoivich + 1st is a price to steep to pay for a player that icould be a UFA in just a year. Agree with your statement, but don't see GMTF offering that package at this point.

We can debate about the price obvously but imo we‘re clearly at a point where we can the price of a first under the right circumstances.

Go and have a look at Capfriendly‘s waiver calculator then you‘ll realize that he‘ll not have to pass waivers until the end of next season (thats the earliest point).
