<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hammerwise</b></div><div>Yeah somewhat, but with ATkinson at 2 yrs left, Hayes at 3 (2 guys performing at their salary level), and Provorov/Koneckny: 25 yr old guys signed for 3 yrs, at reasonable money and playing fairly well, I just dont see why you would move them for playing poorly guys like Myers, Reilly, Mantha who have 2 yrs left.

Those are the type of guys (TK, Provorov) that you build a team WITH, (not around) but with. And Hayes at 7.14mil for 3 yrs is okay, given that a similar production player like horvat just got 8+ for 8 yrs. Provorov for instance is struglling, but whos he partnered with and why does Sanheim get a free pass? Provorov plays 23+ minutes a game and Sanheim just 20.

Looking at the team now, full of young guys, with brink, foerster, desnoyers, gautheir coming soon, I think your upgrades are already in system, so why tear down/trade away the other parts that are working. The flyers without couturier, ellis and atkinson are .500 with a ton of youth breaking through, seems counter productive to move some of that for late in the round picks and bad players/contracts</div></div>

I really don't see Philly's prospect pool being as deep as you might do. This years draft is the deepest for years and there are ton of good prospects with a big upside - having 3-4 1st rounders would help to build the franchise with a help from Couturier, Atkinson and Laughton who are great vets, bringing the right type of culture to the locker room.

You are probably right that Philly's ownership would not allow to do that. My view for moving Provorov and Konecny is simply that their contracts have a lot of value and the timing of these great contracts tthat will not help the Flyers competiting for Stanley Cup, because they simply are not ready yet in the upcoming years. Both guys will be ~29 when their deals end and it will be a payday for two guys who are turning to the end of their careers - if you might have to move them then, why not do it earlier when the returns are better.

Sanheim's contract is not necessarily that temptating for teams bc of the length, that's the reason for the free pass. York is a future top4 guy who could replace Provorov.
