I think they would for sure, but I don't think Anaheim would have much interest in moving him given that he's still a big part of that team and was very effective in a shutdown role in the playoffs. He also has a NMC.

Wait, you're comparing Sergachev trade for Drouin (22yrs) to McDonagh for Gomez (30yrs)??
Zibanejad is not worth 7.5m, but to force a team's hand with an offer sheet you need to overpay. And at some point, whether in free agency, offer sheet or trade, we will have to overpay to get a bloody top 6 center on this team lol. Zibanejad is a young big center who is already playing a lot of minutes and has performed well in the playoffs, he might as well be the player to bet on at this point.

Good trade imo. I really like Juulsen so I think it's a significant piece to give up, and one that will be very useful for the oilers soon, and Lindgren could be an interesting option for them in the future. 2nd rounder adds value and Plek can be useful for them in a shutdown role for one season. Trade accomplishes their goal of saving cap space after this season as well... I like it, good trade for both teams I think, well done!

Awesome first line, good goalie, and Spezza, but that's about it lol. Not enough depth and the D is not good enough. Hitchcock will at least give them structure and make them competitive, but it's a fringe playoff team imo and not a Cup contender.

Beauvilier was a natural centerman in junior. He hasn't played it yet in the nhl but based on scouting reports and footage I've seen of him he is definitely skilled and smart enough to play C. His faceoff numbers were good in junior too, and he might not have ideal size but he can be a Tyler Johnson type with even more upside in my opinion.

Realistic Galchenyuk to NYI trade?
That would be a really nice trade for the Habs I think but personally I'd do it for even just De Haan and Beauvilier. I haven't seen De Haan much but his numbers all look good. I'd consider Leddy too although his on-ice shots/goals against stats aren't as good, but that's probably because of the tougher competition.
It's Beauvilier that really intrigues me though, the more research I do on him the more I think he will be an excellent top 6 forward in the nhl. He's a natural centreman also, so I can see him becoming a Tyler Johnson type of player but with even more upside (taller, and already 1 year of NHL experience at only 20 years old). I really hope the rumours about a deal with the Islanders involving him is legit.
It would be really nice to make Plekanec and Emelin's contracts disappear also lol

I agree, I'm watching a bit more footage on Beauvilier, and I would question the Islanders front office's sanity if they made this trade lol.
Maybe there's something to be done with only Leddy but they would have to be really confident that De Haan could step into that role and that they have someone on the second pairing.

Very interesting I like those theories, I wouldn't be opposed to any of those ideas. The protection list is gonna be really interesting tomorrow... I normally don't like buyouts but Pleky might be an ideal candidate, although if Emelin goes I think the Habs will be okay on the cap.

Starting line up when the playoffs begin next season
I'm fully on board with signing Jumbo Joe for 2 years and I think 7 milskies is probably a realistic target for what it might take to pry him away from his good situation in California. It might seem far fetched to some, but I think with this kind of offer it might not be so crazy to think that Jumbo could come finish his career in the hockey Mecca with his good Canadian buddies Price and Weber. What a an amazing acquisition that would be for the Habs...
From a a Habs perspective I would make that Arizona trade in a heartbeat, but I'm not sure they would. I think Beaulieu is a must trade at this point and I'm not a fan of the way Galchenyuk plays the game, so I'd be happy to move those guys to get a player like Strome back. But yeah I think Arizona probably likes what they've seen from Strome too and wouldn't be inclined to trade him... That being said I agree with the premise that he would pretty much solve our problem of the missing #1 center in the long term.
I like Perron as well and I think he'd be a decent fit, but I'm just not convinced the Blues would have a whole lot of interest in Emelin. I think we might be stuck with that contract for next season.

Jumbo, trade Galchenyuk v.2
Thanks for the good feedback!
Agree about buyouts, it's not a great solution, I kind of just did that quickly since the main concept of this roster was signing Sharp, Thornton and trading Galchenyuk for a left defenseman, but it wouldn't fit with Emelin's salary. But I think if a trade is made for that left defenseman, Emelin would be expendable.
As for the trade, personally I think that's a fair amount to give up for OEL, even though I realize he's a top flight dman, but the risk of losing him for nothing in 2 years is real for Arizona, and will they be competitive by then? I think not, so why not try to get some younger players that can develop alongside their new core. From what I can see they are short on right handed defensemen in the system too, so Juulsen would be a nice addition. And although they do have some good young forwards coming up, they were an atrocious team on offense this season and have been for the past several years (similar to Edmonton's situation up until they got McJesus), so I think Arizona could still really use another skilled forward, and one who has lots of NHL experience despite his young age. I definitely wouldn't be willing to give up Sergachev in that deal, a player who might become better than OEL in just a few years and who can be with the team for the next decade.
As for resigning Markov, I'm split on that one. He's a great player and showed that he still has some juice left in the tank, but I'm concerned that he's slowing down too much for the playoffs, and I think the D in general needs to get a little younger, they looked completely gassed by the time they got to game 5 in round 1 this season. In my mind if a trade can be made for a good younger puck moving defenseman to partner Weber, then it will be time to move on from Markov, because I also think Sergachev is ready for the NHL as soon as next season. If no trade can be made, then I'd be fine with bringing Markov back, but it would be my plan B.

Interesting, giving up Patch would be a tough one, but I could see how Chucky wouldn't be highly valued in the west given his inconsistency and awful play down the stretch. The kid still has huge offensive upside though... There were some rumours TB might look to move Drouin for one of Anaheim's defensemen too, if I'm the Ducks I would take a long look at both, they need to get a little more dynamic up front and add some skill imo. I guess they could also end up moving Vatanen instead of Fowler too.

I would make that trade with the Hawks any day though. Anisimov might not be the ultimate fix at center but he would definitely be an upgrade compared to Plekanec, and his salary is pretty reasonable too. I have zero interest in Eberle though, I'd much rather keep Gallagher in the top 6.

I actually think Sergachev will come along even faster than that under Julien, who wasn't afraid to play 19 year old Brandon Carlo on the first pairing with Chara all season long in Boston. Carlo's total minutes were kept at a reasonable level since he didn't get any time on the powerplay, but his even strength minutes were second only to Chara's. This is a good indication of the level of confidence Julien is willing to have in young players, even at defense (unlike Therrien). And a big point is that playing with a guy like Weber, who is similar in style to Chara, will make Sergachev's job a lot easier, and their styles should complement each other very nicely. In my opinion, barring a trade for someone like Fowler who would also be a great fit with Weber, I expect to see Sergachev on the first pair within the next 2 seasons.

MTL trades with ANA, WPG, WSH this summer?
Just wanted to add I'm like 99% sure Hudon is eligible for the draft because he already has 3 years professional experience in North America (AHL).
I really like the Fowler trade, I think it's fair for both teams and properly fills each one's needs. Fowler-Weber could be one of the top pairings in the NHL for many years (I don't see Weber's game mysteriously declining like others) and it allows you to ease in Sergachev correctly. My only reservation would be that we would need to make sure we can find a center or two to properly fill in the top 6 before moving Chucky, but assuming that can be done, I would make that deal.

If JT wants out
I like that deal for JT, I am also thinking Galchenyuk and Gallagher would likely be key pieces in that trade. I wonder if that would be the best offer available for the Islanders though... JT's no trade would help since it limits the bidding war to only a few teams. Have to think that Montreal would be on his list, he's seen first hand how good Weber and Price are with team Canada, and the team has a giant hole at #1 C. Seems like the kind of player that would thrive in a huge hockey market as well.

Somewhat realistic attempt at getting a 1-2 punch at C
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>coga16</b></div><div>
well Lebrun just crapped all over your hot take here, saying today that the consensus is that Dutch is an excellent excellent player and this years total do not reflect him as a player so there are no reservations who would be trading for him.
Enjoy not having a 1st or 2nd line C then. Danault in your Top 6 again will bring the same sort of results for an aging roster</div></div>
There are other options like offer sheets or maybe even KHL players for the Habs, it's not great but it's not like Duchene is the end all be all either. And of course he's a better player than he showed this season, you don't have to be a genius to figure that one out. But if he's a perfect amazing player then the Avs wouldn't be openly shopping him. They obviously have some issues with either his on-ice or off-ice, and he doesn't seem to fit on their team anymore. I would also say that most analysts, like Pierre McGuire, would agree that he's not a stud #1 C, and so you're not gonna give up a 19 year old potential franchise #1 D who will play 25-30 minutes a game, for a player like Duchene. Not to mention he's 26 and only 2 years away from free agency so from a contract point of view that trade doesn't make sense.
Let's agree to revisit this after he moves lol, and we'll see who was right.

UFA and RFA's numbers looks pretty similar to what I have in mind, although I think you might be able to save a few bucks on Ott, who I would also be tempted to bring back.
Question: what makes you go for Wennberg ahead of guys like Johansen, Kuznetsov, Granlund or Draisaitl ?
No saying it's a bad choice, just wondering what ultimately made you go for him.</div></div>
To be honest I haven't looked too closely at those other teams' cap situations, and I saw someone mention on here how tight CBJ was to the cap next season so I wanted to see how Wennberg could fit on this roster. I think in that list Draisaitl would be my top choice, but from what I can tell Edmonton is in a pretty good spot with their cap and would be able to match.
I think Wennberg is a fantastic player too though, already playing 18-19 min as a 22 year old and maintaining a good +/- and point totals. I almost get Backstrom vibes from him sometimes with the way he passes the puck (not quite as good obviously lol but similar styles), and top prospects coming from the SHL are usually very complete players. I think he would be a really good fit under Julien, and imagine what he could do with Radulov and Pacioretty on his wings, it would be fun to watch.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>The_Architect</b></div><div>Interesting roster...on paper. I say no to Kovalchuk..too old and habs need a legit 1-2 down the middle. Habs shouldn't wait for Galchenyuk to eventually pan out. They need stability asap. The thing about Draisaitle is that Edmonton can possibly match that, but you can offer less to Wennberg like 6 mill and Columbus still wouldn't be able to match it cause they're so cap strapped. I think Wennberg wouldn't turn it that down either...7 years. Personally I don't want to give any picks away at the end of the day. BTW you only have 21 players signed and barely any cap space left. I think the cap is gonna go up by 1.5 mill at least</div></div>
Good call on Wennberg man, I didn't realize Columbus was so cash strapped for next season. I wonder if they might try to trade someone else to make some room for him, but that might actually be pretty tough since a lot of their guys have no move clauses. Very interesting... They might just bite the bullet on Wennberg and trade him or take compensation, then roll with Dubinsky and Dubois next season. Didn't watch a ton of Columbus this season but by all accounts Wennberg is a very responsible player who is really creative and can log big minutes, sounds like Julien's type of centerman. This might definitely be the best offer sheet/trade candidate for Berge.

Radulov deal is good, and I'd be willing to bite the bullet on an extra year if he really wants to force the issue. Like the above poster mentioned 5m is too much for Markov imo and there might be a better 2nd pair shutdown option out there.
More needs to be done to address the center position though, and we know Duchene is available. I think it's perfectly realistic for the Habs to acquire that player in a trade. Based on the reporting Shipachyov will finally be coming over this season also, he would be another realistic acquisition for Bergevin.
And lastly, I would be very surprised if both Beaulieu and Galchenyuk return next season, and if I'm betting I say they're both gone.
