When Patrick comes back, who gets sent to the Phantoms? Does he just step right into the 3rd line and you keep those top three the same otherwise.

okay, Hell was a little harsh, but we aren't in a great spot either. I would have preferred we not take on Braun's contract. To give a 2 and a 3 for him was too high. Especially if you are saying he will be gone at the end of this year. Why give up so much for a rental, and not a very good one?
I agree about JVR, but I think we can dangle a pick and let Seattle take him off our hands in a couple of years. I like JVR, but his lack of speed may be exposed in a couple of years when his other skills begin to diminish.

I'm not a huge Hagg fan either, but I think he has a little more value in the current NHL based on low cap number, blocks shots, hits people, and is young. I think his peak is a bottom pair d-man. If Rinaldo was able to get a 3rd, I don't think it is unreasonable to see Hagg get a 3rd or 4th. Besides overpaying for Braun (I think that was too much) and getting Niskanen has put us back in cap hell with so many RFAs that I would think are apart of our future expiring soon. Would have rather seen them get one of them and kept Hagg in the mix until someone in the minors is ready to grab the reins.

I think the Flyers protect Lindblom. I think their protection list is F - Giroux, Voracek, Hayes (unfortunately - I think he is good, but too high a cap number), Lindblom, Patrick, Konecny, and Couturier...D - Provorov, Myers, Sanheim and Goalie is obviously Hart. I think they probably lose Gostisbehere in the draft unless they swing a trade to sway them to take JVR.

Is Chris Stewart worth carrying around? Also, don't you think you can get more than a 5th for Haag (especially a 5th in 2021)? I thought a 3rd or a 4th. He is a heavy body and paired with the right guy he can have some success. To be honest, I didn't want to see them get both Niskanen and Braun, instead keeping Haag in that mix.

That I can get behind. I was also thinking maybe "dealing" him to Seattle, but you would have to give them a 1st or a prospect at least to take it on. Same would go with OTT. He isn't useless, I just think $7M was way too high for a guy scoring at 25 goals a year.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CaptJosef</b></div><div>Realistically you'd be moving JVR, Kadri, and Ghost after 2 years for ELC players. After The first season you maybe move one of Laughton or Hartman. We still have the likes of Farabee, Allison, Rubtsov at forward and any number of D to fill in on the bottom pair. I could have moved Ghost now to free up more cap but you might as well keep as many good players as possible for as long as possible.</div></div>
I see what you are saying. So how do we get rid of JVR without having to retain salary? I agree there is a lot in the pipeline to fill in, but I think JVR kills us.

So you want to designate $55M in 2021-2022 without having Oskar (needs to be signed in 2020-2021), Patrick (also needs to be signed in 2020-2021), Sanheim, Provy, Morin (he may be a casulty of the cap), Myers (who will need to be signed in 2020-2021), as well as Carter Harter signed. I like the two big free agent signings, but not at the cost of losing several of the players I have listed. If you assume the cap will go up about $3M each year, that will leave about $33M to sign at least 6 forwards and 3 defenseman and 2 goalies. I just don't see it being feasible without losing too many of the young guns (maybe that's your plan to lose them).

I would be curious to see what happens to Tampa at the end of this year. Lots of money with be given to some of their FAs. That will have to hurt their depth.

He is a perennial 20+ goal scorer. It may be a stretch now, but at the end, it will be a bargain. That's what I'm betting on. Kind of like Coots right now!

So Hagelin and Raffl is a $5 million player probably scoring 15 goals a year for 3 years.</div></div>
Raffl has versatility by playing all 3 forward positions and can play all lines. Hagelin brings speed for the PK. Maybe it was an overpay, but what I was trying to show was we need to find more players that fit roles for cheaper than trying to create an all star team and put us in cap hell.

Taking JETS to Free Agency
I don't understand why everyone wants to press our $$ back up against the cap again. Hextall did a good job of getting rid of that and I would much rather spread that money out more evenly among the young guns that we currently have as opposed to spending like that. I'm not even a fan of the JVR deal, but adding to more like his is just crazy when we have young players to pay.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DirtyDangles</b></div><div>Even with that contract, I don't see us having any cap issues anytime soon. Patrick, unless he goes off next next, likely won't get more than $3-$3.5 for a few years. Lindblom, likely the same.</div></div>
I'd disagree. In the time frame you speak of, you have Hart, Coots, Myers, Morin (if we decide to keep him), Frost, Patrick, Lindbolm, etc needing contracts. If you did a three or even a four year deal, you can give EK some serious cash and he will be gone by the time he hits 31 or so, or you can re-visit and resign him. But I would rather have all or most of those young people (don't forget we have Farabee coming up too either next year or the year after) to get signed than Karlsson. However, I wouldn't put it past Holgrem's buddy to get us back in cap hell like we were before Hextall.

I like Karlsson, but doesn't he really lock our cap situation up with that astronomical number? I'd much rather give him short but lots of money (like 3 or 4 years at $13M each) knowing we have to sign a bunch of younger players down the road. You have him locked up until 35 years old.
