What would you want from Dallas in a Ghost trade?

I was contemplating that but came to the conclusion that you don't need him. You have Klingberg and Heiskanen that can do what Ghost does but they are better defensively.

Fair, just wondering out of curiosity. Plus a top 4 of Heiskanen-Klingberg and Lindell-Ghost would be pretty deadly. I think a team that could use Ghost is Vancouver

Unfortunately I don't think the Canucks have anything good they would be willing to give up for him.

Can't see Montreal doing this. Danault is hella underrated (from my perspective looking at other teams fans). Throwing a 1st on top of that? Simply too much for me.

If you watch him play enough, he is a Patrice Bergeron type clone but with less talent. Won't be a 30+40 guy like Berg but more like a 15-35 guy.

I passed on Chicago due to Gus and DET because, according to their fans, all their D prospects are SOOO good.

I mean I can’t speak for the people who have Detroit as their #1, but Cholowski Hronek and McIsaac are the only real good ones imo

couldn't agree more. as soon as you trade him, you are basically looking for him again. I like the trade, but drop the 1st and add something diff

I figured you could go after Duchene or Hayes. Kotkaniemi is not ready to be a #1 yet so signing one of the aforementioned seems like a good choice. It allows you to move Domi to the wing to create more depth all around.

i would love Duchene in MTL. only question is what is the price for him? 7-9 million I am assuming.

I like Karlsson, but doesn't he really lock our cap situation up with that astronomical number? I'd much rather give him short but lots of money (like 3 or 4 years at $13M each) knowing we have to sign a bunch of younger players down the road. You have him locked up until 35 years old.

Even with that contract, I don't see us having any cap issues anytime soon. Patrick, unless he goes off next next, likely won't get more than $3-$3.5 for a few years. Lindblom, likely the same.

I realize Edmonton doesn't need another LHD, but I'm all for acquiring talent wherever I can find it so I've got to ask the question: what would be your ask from Edmonton?

Danault isn't underrated, he just isn't very good. He plays mostly with Gallagher and Tatar (Montreal's top 2 goal scorers) who are the main reason he's getting as many points as he is. Consider:

Danault with Tatar and Gallagher:

CF% 62.31
FF% 60.28
SF% 60.49
GF% 68.00
TOI: 520:54

Danault without Tatar and Gallagher:

CF% 44.83
FF% 47.20
SF% 48.47
GF% 50.00
TOI: 140:36

This includes significant time with Drouin. He's 26 years old and unlikely to get any better, I'm sure he's a useful part of the team and fulfils his role quite nicely, but he's just that - a role player. You shouldn't ever get so hung up on a guy like Danault that it keeps you from acquiring a top talent defenseman like Gostisbehere. The more I look at this the more I think this is a steal for Montreal.

RNH has more value than Danault + a late 1st IMO. See my above post.

I'd disagree. In the time frame you speak of, you have Hart, Coots, Myers, Morin (if we decide to keep him), Frost, Patrick, Lindbolm, etc needing contracts. If you did a three or even a four year deal, you can give EK some serious cash and he will be gone by the time he hits 31 or so, or you can re-visit and resign him. But I would rather have all or most of those young people (don't forget we have Farabee coming up too either next year or the year after) to get signed than Karlsson. However, I wouldn't put it past Holgrem's buddy to get us back in cap hell like we were before Hextall.

No no no no. You screwed up my punchline!!! You were supposed to say "Stop what?".

Then I would proceed to say stop using analytics to make a terrible analysis. Sticking Out Tongue

You clearly don't watch the Habs. You just look at some stats and think you know the guy. Danault is way better than you are trying to mislead. Btw the guy you say is "elite" is being consistently traded by Philly fans and has has been disappointing this year.

So what's more likely? Danault is better than some misleading stats are showing or Gostisbehere isn't as good as you entailing?
