Marner isn't worth a 2OA pick even with an extension in place, honestly.

If only clearing almost $12m in cap space was so easy. Hawks obviously decline.

lol. CHI couldn't hang up the phone fast enough. Try again, and this time maybe add DET's 2024 1st round pick.

Marnie Gotta Go
The best way for TOR to clear cap space through CHI is to do a simple deal involving Tavares (if he can be convinced to waive!), some incentive, and "future considerations."
Honestly, I think CHI would move Seth Jones' contract given the chance but it doesn't make sense in a deal involving Marner. Marner's value is to a contender in the next 2-3 years, not a rebuilding team with lots of cap.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Sadleaffan</b></div><div>They would absolutely move Rinzel for Marner in a package dont be silly. Ones a 95 point winger that gets selke votes, ones a prospect (a good one) but a prospect.</div></div>
Don't be silly, the Hawks are rebuilding and 1 year of Marner does nothing for them other than to retain 50% and flip him at the TDL. Without an extension in place, and everyone knows Marner is going to test the free agency market and likely go to the highest bidder, somewhere around $13M per year, he's not worth much to the Hawks.
Furthermore, the Hawks. have the #2 OA pick in the draft and they have the intent on drafting Demidov which many think is the case, Marner even long term is going to be much less interesting to the Hawks.

From The Core Four To Only One
I don't believe CHI should be interested in Marner for any long term purpose, and probably not for any short term purpose either. Plus, they don't need him next year. So if there is interest, they could just wait and see if he hits free agency. Which means I doubt they are willing to spend anything like this on him. I guess it's possible, but adding another almost 30 year old with a large contract with term doesn't seem like a Kyle Davidson move to me.

An Outsiders Vision - CHI
Unlikely that Davidson would target Blankenburg or Jenik. There are plenty of draft picks/prospects in the wings waiting for opportunities . Hawks likely are looking for help in the top 6. Hawks aren’t going to settle for those payments for cap dumps. They are looking to build up not be bogged down by cast offs.

After years of the same make the changes needed
Hawks decline. They aren't retaining on Jones for 6 years and can't imagine the Hawks want to take on that Nylander contract either. How about the Ottawa '24 3rd for Lilypad?
The only one of these trades that has a shot is the Utah deal, and even that is iffy for one year of Marner.

CHI should not be interested in trading assets for Marner at all, let alone trading some pretty valuable assets to TOR without an extension already in place. I doubt CHI is interested in moving Jones either. This just isn't happening. Or, at least, it shouldn't.

Chicago is not trading down in the draft to acquire a position they have absolutely zero need to address. They have younger and better LD already on the roster.

Would CHI consider this
Murphy is worth more than Lillypad and provides a ton of leadership to the locker-room in Chicago. We need a locked-down stay at home physical defender as well to balance the young kids. While something may be able to happen around these two players, it is unlikely Chicago views these as even and even less so with retention.

I hope not. We need physical veterans specifically on the right side because well be icing 3 very young dmen on the left.
Truth be told, I want them to sign another physical veteran on the right...not get rid of one.

CHI should only consider Laine if CBJ is willing to pay to clear some cap space. I also don't think CHI should be willing to give up EDM for any reason.

Time to Go - Kevy
This is a simple no. That Chicago 2nd rounder is #33, there is zero chance they move that pick.
Skinner, even retained (there's a simple way to do that on this website when you add him to the trade), has a contract that lasts too long. The Hawks will need cap flexibility in two more years and aren't going to weigh themselves down a 3rd year with that contract. They will want to bring in a big name free agent as well that will eat up a lot of cap, and will likely make a move next summer.

I missed that since it followed the comment about Krebs.
Honestly still don’t think I would accept. I think culture setters are needed and while Skinner is definitely skilled, he has no track record of team success. Is he another one of these players Foligno mentioned this week that are unwilling to sacrifice for team success?
Personally I would go hard after a guy like Teravainen, I know he doesn’t come with the 2nd round pick offered here and the fourth line centre (Krebs) but he plays a more complete game, has won a cup and been a big part of a contending team the past few season in Carolina. In my opinion this is a much better use of financial assets.

Neither team makes that deal. It probably favors the Hawks ar face value. But the Hawks aren't in a place to make the long term commitment that Mitts is probably looking for. And can't see the Hawks valuing Joki the same way the Sabres might.

Price of these players
Chicago is thin on the right side and Murphy is part of their leadership core. I highly doubt he's on the market because his value to the rebuild far outweighs his value on the open market. I think it takes a massive overpayment to acquire him without retention. With retention costs even more.
