Adding onto this point: if this contract was signed with the intention of him not playing out the full six years (ie going on LITR and becoming a trading asset), that sounds a lot like cap circumvention.

a Trade concept this probably makes sense for both teams
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>twodollarlobster</b></div><div>I'm not disagreeing with you at all, just genuinely curious as to why he has more value? Nechas was on pace for 42 points in 82 games this year and Poolparty was on pace for 45. They have a 1 year age difference. The only difference I see is one is a center and one is a wing (which yes means they are worth a little more) but do you really think Nechas has that much more value?
I've seen this trade a lot and I'm just curious.</div></div>
Ability to play center is definitely a factor. Also think that Necas has a higher ceiling at this point. I’m a fan of Puljujarvi; I actually want Devils to trade for him, but I think Necas is better player. Honestly don’t think Puljujarvi will get much via trade. Probably average player or prospect and 2nd/3rd

Schosters Oilers
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>twodollarlobster</b></div><div>I don't watch a lot of Philly games (only when they play the Oilers). Just purely looking at his numbers from the last two years, is Carter Hart not playing up to his potential or is Philly just that bad in front of him? I understand why he asked this, even though if you asked me I'd take Hart over Skinner all day.</div></div>
It's a bit of both. Hart definitely hasn't been playing at his best, but even prime Hasek would have a tough time when playing with the Flyers D group.
Despite having to deal with guys like Yandle and Ristolainen, he still had some great performances this year, the potentials definitely still there.

Possible
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>twodollarlobster</b></div><div>I don't think you are necessarily wrong but you forget how badly the Sharks don't want Kane to come back either. I'm not an expert on SJ at all but just looking at their cap situation, if they have to take on Kanes 7 million a year I think they will need to get rid of him this summer to make it work.
I also don't know how many other teams really want Kane so their options to get rid of him might be limited. As far as I've read (so obviously there could be more) the only other team interested in Kane at the time was Washington so the trade market for him might be limited.</div></div>
The sharks want a manageable cap more than they want to get rid of Kane. There are far more moving pieces here than you are taking into consideration. These oilers offers are pure delusion.

Colorado declines. Why would they trade their number 1 dman just to make McKinnon their number 2 center.

Question for Ranger Fans
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Twodollarlobster</b></div><div>If Georgiev went to a team that had better stats (maybe like the Oilers) do you think he would be okay?</div></div>
Your mistake is presuming that Edmonton has better stats than New York, when in fact the two teams are remarkably similar.
Shots against/60
NYR: 30.51
EDM: 31.90
Expected goals against/60
NYR: 2.81
EDM: 2.92
High danger corsi against/60
NYR: 12.00
EDM: 11.50
There's no reason to believe that Georgiev would magically raise his game in Edmonton.

Question for Ranger Fans
Georgiev plays better and is more consistent when he receives regular playing time. He would probably make a better starter than backup. That being said, if he isn't traded by July 8th, you can get him for nothing as the Rangers most likely wont qualify him.

Question for Ranger Fans
Georgiev is...weird. I definitely think he's a better starter than backup though. He needs to be seeing pucks consistently, he's not super great at coming in once every 4 or 5 games, but seems to perform better in stretches where he's the starter

wishful thinking
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CD282</b></div><div>The only reason Edmonton would be interested in moving Barrie is for cap space to sign Evander Kane. This certainly doesn't help.</div></div>
Come on, if he's healthy (and motivated?), Ellis is such an upgrade on Barrie. Only reason Barrie is still an Oiler at all is you lost Larsson to Seattle and gave up on Bear.
Reality is the Oilers will have a near impossible task of re-signing Kane, anyway. With goaltending still a question mark and quality RFA's to consider, I can't see a way to get it all done unless EDM eats it in trades to remove Kassian and probably Foegele from the books. Can't see Kane taking too much of a pay cut given his situation and the season/playoffs he's had.

When the Jets put Ehlers on PP1 it worked. Its just crappy coaching that has him PP2. There is no need for the Jets to make that trade.

What I want to see next year
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>twodollarlobster</b></div><div>I don't watch any Buffalo games so I might be missing something, but is Staal really that much better than Turris? I mean looking at points, Staal has 9 and Turris has 4 and it's not like Staal is great defensively either. Guy has a minus 14. So my question is, is Staal really worth adding in an extra 2 draft picks?</div></div>
Staal is still a productive player, not in BUF. This team is just not doing well. He brings depth and leadership. Still a great FO guy and he's still showing flashes. Kyle Turris is only in the deal for a cap dump, i dont even have him in the lineup. Staal will net us a 2nd., regardless of from who. The trade bait for contenders is not very deep this yr IMO. I see your point but Staal can be a productive player still.

Laine for Center
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>twodollarlobster</b></div><div>Yeah that's why I added Roslovic to help out with the center problem. I can see why they'd still say no to this because Roslovic would be a #2 at best and I don't know if Domi is a #1</div></div>
Exactly. I like Roslovic, but don’t see him as a #1, and CBJ aren’t rebuilding and willing to wait for him to develop into that. Domi is a good playmaker, but don’t see the two-way strength that PLD has.
Point being, I think the center position is more or less exactly where CBJ want it. Not worth shaking it up for Laine.

Swapping Bad Contracts
If VGK is actually serious about it, Id combine the two:
TO VGK
Neal
Smith (500k retained)
TO EDM
Fleury
No retention on Vegas' part, just straight up 2 for 1. Money is a wash for the 1st year, we would solve the goaltending issue.
No picks either side, no prospects either.

Jets - Ottawa Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>twodollarlobster</b></div><div>As a Jet fan I'd say this is an overpayment. Chabot is a fantastic defenseman and would be a top 2 anywhere in the NHL. I think in all honesty if Ottawa were to do this it would probably be closer to a 1 for 1.
Also, I hate people who just say "Troll" or "delete this" without any explanation. Have a debate and say reasons don't be a douche.</div></div>
i definitely wouldnt do this as a 1 for 1. A winger would never be worth a #1D no matter how good he is. Chabot is carrying the back end and its hard to find a franchise Dman like him again

Non-Montreal Fan Barzal Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>twodollarlobster</b></div><div>I agree it's maybe more of a speculation and i should have picked my wording better. I think I heard it before COVID saying something about how he doesn't like how Barry Trotz coaches with such a strong emphasis on defense. I may have heard this on TSN or Sportsnet. Idk</div></div>
I think you're thinking of a SpittingChicklets episode where Bissonnette and Whitney talked about how Barzal would be better on another team that can score more, and Elliotte Friedman indulged them and speculated along with them. While it's true he'll definitely get fewer points with NYI than he would on say EDM or PIT, he and Trotz get along perfectly well and it seems Barzal respects him a lot. He knows that Trotz can bring them further than any other coach in the NHL, and he believes in his system. He didn't seem to like Doug Weight (Weight benched him during a last-minute Power Play to tie it, and Barzal legit cried in his post-game interview), and he had his best statistical season with him.
