Description
1) Use the rest of this season to undo as may of Cherrelli's mistakes as they can. I get some are going to be harder than others but going to teams like ARI, OTT that may be looking for cap dumps to get to the cap floor next season and they want to take the risk of Russell or Sekera for more or less a late pick they should do this to free up cap space to go after the type of players Cherrelli should have signed in the 1st place. Also, assess who they need and who can be used to streghten the roster.

2) Hire a GM with a great scouting background my choice is Mark Hunter seeing he did a great job in Toronto rebuilding their scouting department and did a great job rebuilding the leafs Prospect pool. The reason they should go that way is you have Wayne Gretzky to help recruit UFA's to come to Edmonton and Bob Nicholson and Keith Gretzky help to run the day to day.
The leafs trade is a 2 part trade the reason for this is so the leafs have Johnsson for their cup run this year so they are as deep as they can be for the run and at the end of the day Johnsson, Brown, Liljegren, Borgman, and Holl for Larsson, Chaisson and maybe a b prospect is fair value and allows the oilers to get the cap with dumping Russell and Sekera to go after a Karlsson or Gardiner type puck moving dman that they need. The other team trades are cap dumps and allow them to restructure their roster out of the 2000's and into this decade.

It was just a dump it could be a oiler trade down with their 7th involved too. Those 2 trades are more riddind them of salary and taking whatever they offer as long as they don't need to retain salary.

That's not how cap dumps work though. If you want to get rid of those contracts, you need to give up something of value.

Your dewelling on what i put as value again as long as it's not ridiculous even if Bear is involved or both 2nd round picks for career AHLers the point is ridding them of the contracts i put late round picks on them cause they are not valueable so teams like ott or Ari may look at as using late round picks to have a vet but again the important thing about this post is the leafs trade which is using a solid player to stregthen the roster and the type of GM the oilers should be looking for.

Yeah you need to give up an asset or two or three even to get rid of guys you don't want.
Like for example: would Yamomoto and a 2nd round pick be enough for Ottawa to take Russell? Ottawa sends back a 7th round pick, C-grade prospect or AHL plug to make the trade legitimate. Then ask yourself: do I want to sacrifice those assets to create that cap space to sign/trade for other players or just keep and play Russell?
