Description
So my thinking is Barbashev is a solid Bottom 6 center with little more heaviness than Gauthier that tidies up the leafs center position but can play on the wing if there is an injury on the wing and they can keep for alot longer than a rental. His upside is playing 3rd line center for injuries and Nolan replaces Timashov in the AHL for the rest of the season. STL get a 2nd round pick and a solid wing prospect. This is a bit of an overpay for a 4th line center but with him being an RFA thats why. The DET deal gives them an NHL ready dman who's upside is #4 but definitely will be a solid 3rd pair dman with 2 way ability and a 4th for a solid defensive dman that isn't elite but definitely can play complementary role on a team.

I would want Sundqvist as 4th line C rather than Barbashev, but that is a good move. Also I see Jensen available for 3rd rounder which would be nice.

Sundqvist is our 3rd Line Center and doing well. I don't think the Blues are trying to get rid of either of them.

I was thinking Sundqvist but my thinking was Barbashev is the most expendable of the 2 and he will be cheaper this offseason to resign.

I get that but if STL are trying to accumulate picks trading Barbashev is maybe a good move they can get a 2nd round pick and 4th line centers are cheap to pick up in FA. Also, they also have told teams other than 1 or 2 players they are open for buisness to i know you may not like this but it sounds like they are about to blow up that team.

The Blues are now a wild card team with games in hand. They might have just became a buyer or at least stay as they are. But they traded Statsny last year when they were in a playoff race.
