Description

Need to add to the D core and get the cap in order going forward.

Gardiner and Zaitsev need to find another place to play.......Gardiner is the whipping boy in TO and although skilled, plays a soft game with little passion. Z is overpaid to be the 4-6 Dman that he is. As a 3rd pairing guy he would be great, unfortunately, he makes way to much for that.

One of Nylander or Kapanen will need to go. Nylander is ultra skilled but plays a perimeter game. Kapanen is over achieving this year and will demand a contract in the $4M+ range or he will get an offer sheet and be lost for a 2nd rounder. Move one of them now for the D man you need

So basically Kapanen for Pesce & Gauthier. Canes pass...and offer sheet Kapanen in offseason for a 2nd

He probably won't hit the offseason as an RFA, but if he does, Leafs will match. He realistically gets no more than $3M on a 2-3 year bridge deal. Any team that overpays more than that is just stupid.

As I said, you're stupid to overpay. But yes, Leafs match and can move Brown, or Zaitsev, or Hyman, or Marleau.. so yes an offer sheet would be matched. But like I said, I wouldn't be shocked to see him sign a 2 or 3 year deal worth under $3M per season before the summer so that would eliminate any talk of an offer sheet possibility.
