Description
Oilers need to clear about 1.9 million in cap space to activate Sekera, moving Spooner will be just enough. Habs have cap space and contract space and could use an extra body in Laval to help the depleted AHL roster. Spooner seems to have lost his way but he did have his best seasons under Julien in Boston so there is an outside chance he could reset his career in Montreal.

I posted something very similar to this yesterday, i like your take on it. Maybe try to get edm's 2nd instead of nyi's 3rd and throw in mtl's 4th instead of their 6th. Deep draft this year that 2nd rounder will be a pick in the 30's.

I missed your post but I like the logic. For their 2nd, I'd send them a 4th AND our 7th for good measure (Winnipeg's, which might be the last overall pick in the draft this year)

I like it. Mtl gets a good pick, takes on a bad but not horrendous contract they can bury for this and another season and gets some help in laval.

Edm recoups a couple of picks makes space for sekera and moves an overpaid guy not even playing with the big club.

And your idea of sending Hudon could be a different take since he would be an upgrade for their bottom 6 immediately, and as an RFA they could re-sign him for less than a million per year. That scenario also makes sense. The point is, Bergevin needs to use the cap space he's jealously guarded to hose a desperate team.

This is smart GM'ing but I will say this, I think a 2nd in mandatory for the Habs. Last year WPG needed space also and they sent the Habs Armia, a 4th and a 7th just to take Mason who had 1 year left of 4M I think. I mean to us it doesn't seem like a lot but we'd still need to pay Spooner 3.1M next year to play in the AHL....... plus whatever is owed this year starting from the TDL. That isn't peanuts.

Spooner with one year left at 3.1M should bring back a 2nd and the Habs could send them a 6th or something back. Maybe not even a pick but a cheap AHL'er like we did in the the WPG deal with Simon Bourque. (Whose now playing for Concordia after not being good enough to make it in AHL hockey)
