Detroit can use Zaitsev, Sparks, and Borgman as key parts of their team while they begin their rebuild and Marchment will be an NHLer for them as soon as next year. As much as I am a fan of all four assets, Zaitsev's contract doesn't work on this team, it will work in Detroit, I don't think Babcock would comfortable giving Sparks a playoff start but Howard has been there, Borgman and Marchment are just overshadowed by the wealth of young talent in the Marlies and are thusly expendable.

Certainly an interesting deal that provides us with a tremendous amount of cap relief at season's end. Not sure if Detroit bites though, considering they are getting 2 C level prospects, a 3rd pairing defenseman on a long term $4 million + deal. I guess it really depends on the value of Sparks. If they consider him a future starter, then sure, I guess it'd be worth it.
