Description
Maatta is probably the most movable Penguins defenseman. Detroit is in a dire situation for a goalie, and Jarry is much further along then anyone else they have in developement. They are giving up a big asset in Svechnikov but they are selling from an area of strength for two pieces where they are weak (G and D). Glendening gives the Penguins a fairly cheap/versitle veteran forward for the the bottom 6.

So, you are already about $1.3M over the projected $82M cap for next year, and you are one person shy of the normal 23 roaster. Meaning about $2M over.

I thought the cap was going to be 83? Not that it matters you have to save about 1M for injury call ups.

I wouldn't worry about that too much until the salary cap is official. Basis of the roster structure is moving a defenseman and using Jarry as a trade chip. An additional forward could be moved if the salary increase in on the lower side.

Rather move DeSmith than Jarry. Jarry is arguably better (even at worst) and costs $600K less.

DeSmith is a cheap capable backup, while Jarry has a much better chance to be a starter. Might as well get value from a guy you don't need unless Pens want to jump ship from Murray.
