Description
Nylander's contract is designed to be easily traded to any team. And those teams that are cash short will love his contract. He has a lot of trade value.

Let's face it Marleau will not waive to be traded and will not retire.

Zeitsev will be difficult to Trade. And he if put in the right situation is good enough. He has played well when he is with Muzzin.

Brown is a valuable player for the leafs - penalty killer, reliable defensively and can move up to top lines in case of injury.

Kadri is on a cheap contract for what he can do and that is worth a lot for the leafs in a cap crunch year.

Hymen is a valuable player as well. Plays well in the forechecking corner to retrieve pucks and also good on the penalty kill.

The leafs would like to keep Johnsson and Kapanen.

Sandin and Liljegren probably need a another year in the AHL with top minutes to perfect their skills before moving to the NHL.

My opinion is trade Nylander for future assets to get the cap room to keep all the other forwards. Then 2020-21 use Marleau's money to work on the defense if Sandin and Liljegren cannot step up.

Let's face it the leafs need more time to mature. It has been evident that they lack consistency and that often comes with Maturity. Let the majority of the team stay together and mature into a top consistent cup contender. We can get the cap issue under control by just moving one of the top players (Nylander) and leave the the rest of the team to grow together. The team has shown that they are top team without him as they did well before he signed.

There is a million of cap space left for one of the kids to take the final spot or for another low cost free agent signing.

Trades
TOR
  1. Tippett, Owen
  2. 2020 1st round pick (FLA)
  3. 2020 5th round pick (TOR)
FLA
  1. Nylander, William
Additional Details:
C/RW William Nylander traded to open up cap space for a couple of picks (1st and leafs own 5th back) and 2017 10th overall pick RW Owen Tippett that is a goal scorer with some size that has a solid potential of being a future NHL 1st or 2nd line winger

This trade happens after the July 1, 2019 signing bonus has been paid to Nylander making his actual salary for the next 5 years a bargain for Florida's cash flow. Florida will have the cap space needed without sending any cap back to Toronto.

Picks can be adjusted to make more far if needed but I think they are reasonable.

Few major things here:

1) Nylander is not the guy that will be traded for cap space relief. You don't trade your highest skilled guys, look at Edmonton trading Hall and Eberle. Not the move the Leafs wanna make. Guys like Zaitsev, Brown, Kadri, and (at a long shot chance) Hyman would be traded before Nylander is even considered. Nylander's deal was signed the way it was so that it helps the Leafs cap situation, not to make him moveable.

2) Dubas has said he IS NOT trading Nylander. He's stuck to his plan from day 1, why would he defer from it? He likes skill. Nylander is playing incredible. $6.9M for him will be a steal for him.

3) Your trade value is way off if they're considering moving him to a divisional team. If he's moved to anyone on the same division, the price is substantionly higher.

Bottom line: Nylander isn't being traded.

Tavares + Muzzin makes the Leafs better, and slams open our contention window.

This trade makes the the Leafs worse.

Judge this team after the playoffs, not based on a bad game or 2 in Jan/Feb when there's barely anything to play for and we are missing 3 of our top players.

And JonesRyan has a great point, why are we making a division rival better?

Why do the Panthers do this? I’m sure they are hoping tons of teams give offer sheets for Marner to hurt the Leafs cap situation. Panthers aren’t going to help them especially if you’re asking for Tippett

1) The problem is that in the cap world you can not tie up about 39-40 mil of the projected 83 mil cap in 4 forwards, Something is gotta give to keep a competitive team in place.
2) I am sure Dubas would like to keep them all but it just may not be possible and he said that before signing Matthews and now what he most likely will have to pay for Marner.
3) There is a good chance that Tippet will play for Florida next year bypassing the AHL completely. And if you need more picks or another prospect from Florida to make the trade fair I would like to see your proposal.

I disagree about this trade making the team worse. It may be worse than this year but I think is is better than a lot of the other AGM teams I have seen for next year.
