Under the scenario where you are able to trade both Perreault and Kulikov, why not just sign Tanev instead of Ferland? Genuinely curious. (Also Ferland will make more money).

Flyers aren't giving up so much for a one year rental, and that's what Trouba is.

Ferland is just outproducing Tanev in points at a higher usage. That's good on two counts since normally players' scoring per ice time goes down the more they get used. They're both having career years, but I would bet Ferland continues to trend upwards while there's a higher chance Tanev doesn't keep his pace of growth.

Also Ferland has been able to play a huge part of the season without a Jordan Staal and has been largely successful. From an evaluation standpoint I would really like to see Tanev away from Lowry for an extended period of time before I say that he's gotten better at holding the puck and generating O zone time. He was an absolute tire fire last year when Lowry wasn't with him, and he's been better this year without playing away from Lowry, so I'm not sure if it's fool's gold or not.

A 1st and a B+ Defensive prospect, and a cap dump are more than fair for a rental top pairing dman.
