Description
Trade Kadri + assets for a right handed defenceman instead of Nylander (I chose Pesce as he would cost less to acquire than Parayko/Faulk and has more years on his contract). Carolina gives up Pesce as he costs 4 mil and they already have 2 better right handed D in Faulk and Hamilton with TVR on the 3rd pair, and they have Jake Bean and Hayden Fleury coming up on the left side, this move creates space for them and adds center/forward depth. Keep Nylander, play him 3rd line center and 2nd PP center, and just roll 3 lines. Bracco then slides up to play with Matthews, keeping Marner with Tavares and letting Kappy and Nylander play together. Trade Marleau and Zaitsev to Ottawa at the draft with the 2019 2nd for Marian Gaborik. (Sort of like the Orpik situation last year) Have Ottawa buyout Marleau and then the Leafs can sign him for 1 year at much less. Gaborik is on LTIR and therefore not actually being paid by Ottawa as his contract is insured, however it doesn't count against the cap. If he's not on LTIR it counts against the cap and the Senators actually have to pay him the money for him to not play. Instead of wasting money on Gaborik they can pay Marleau and Zaitsev to acquire a 2nd round pick and a defenceman who will play in their top 4 (and count for over 10 mil against the cap as they need to hit the cap floor). Brown for Benning apparently almost happened at the deadline, I'd revisit it, and add a draft pick either way to make it work. Bring back Hainsey as he hasn't been bad in a limited role but OH MY GOSH DON'T LET BABCOCK PLAY HIM 20 MINUTES OR MORE. Bring Ennis back if possible (1-2 mil) or make a similar depth signing in free agency.

I doubt Senators do the Leafs a favor unless you pay a pretty price. A 2nd round pick is going to do it, you are asking the Senators to eat 12 million in Leaf cap. Yes Marleau cost only 1.25 million in real money, but Zaitsev is or 4 million for 5 years.

Edmonton says no. We don’t need more wingers clogging up the bottom 6 we already have enough to play 3rd and 4th line.

And exactly which one of your future Hall-of-Famer-RW's is going to play in your top 6? Gagner? Kassian? Rattie? Chiasson? Brown is better than any of them.

Not saying he isn’t but if were gonna give up something we’re gonna get better than brown. And Btw Kassian and Chiasson have more goals than brown.
