Actually the author has logically concluded that the Leafs have to shed cap space. It seem impractical that the Leafs get just trade players....lets say a forward and get playing and cap value back in a trade. Leafs would be over the cap.
I would suggest to just to make a one trade the 6.9m cap of Nylander for futures. That solves the cap issue this year.
