Description
doesn't include any outside free agent signings that might happen. But Rutherford tends to not have a great track record when it comes to UFA signings. Im not even sure if they will resign Wilson or Prow(for different reasons) but I have them both listed on the roster here, obviously the roster size isn't correct.

We know one high cap defenseman has to go, it would make the most sense to be Maatta because it moves enough cap and also the left side has more people capable of replacing somebody. Otherwise I would say maybe move Schultz if they cant resign him since they could get a decent return but it would be tougher to replace him. If they do get rid of Schultz Prow would be more likely to be kept imo.

The kessel deal, I really am not a person who wants to trade kessel. On top of that it is difficult because of team and value. Arizona seems to be one of the ones that would make some sense, value wise this might not be perfect, might have to adjust the draft picks quite a bit.

Also these aren't the exact lines it would be.

could be a different team, since its just draft picks it doesn't really matter. A few teams should be interested.

  1. 2019 2nd round pick (DET)

could be another team, Jarry could have a solid future but is out of options, so either him or DeSmith would have to be traded.

not enough for kessel.

originally I had the two players, and two firsts going to Pittsburgh for just Phil. But I ended up making the second pick conditional on something that is reasonable so its still likely two firsts but could be a second.(although maybe im underestimating how much more rare points are for the coyotes as opposed to penguins). and added the picks coming from Pittsburgh(with a relatively reasonable conditional, so it could be just the fifth but also maybe a third)

changed it back to my original idea now. Two firsts without any conditions attached.

I don't see a team giving up 2 1st round picks for Kessel.

My guess is it's a 1st and a player. But the player has to have decent potential.

that's why I kinda adjusted it to begin with so it wasn't as much unless Kessel had a very good season still.

The problem with doing one where its just one pick and a player is teams trading for kessel are gonna be teams interested in competing either now or very soon. So unless they are trading away from immense depth for a need(for example, Nashville trading defense for Phil) its tough to make happen. There are only a few situations where that would work. There are some teams that wouldn't be able to do that type of deal but could give up picks instead. Then there is the fact of where Phil would or wouldn't want to go. So the number of potential trade partners (IF he is traded) isn't too high.
