Description
Based off of The Athletics hypothetical trades for the Red Wings. The defence gets totally overhauled and a welcome problem of having too many right-handed defencemen. Mortgaged some of the future for Trouba. Byram Bowen will probably be unavailable for the 6th pick. Which means they lose out again this year on a potential 1st pairing defenceman. This trade makes sense to grab a 1st pairing defenceman as it is an organizational need, one which the Red Wings don't have anything in the pipeline for. I like the idea of grabbing Miller. He is an upgrade from Daley and he has 3 years left which should be the perfect timing for one of McIsaac or Lindstrom to be ready to take over. Had to give up Svechnikov as an asset. He is good, but the Red Wings have lots of good forward prospects. Don't know if that Tampa Bay trade makes sense. Bowey and Kuffner are the odd men out so I just added them to this trade to take on the Callahan contract.

Trading a late 2nd round pick and retaining on a cap dump for a top pairing defenseman is "mortgaging some of the future" now? ?

Fair point. What would be needed here? Reporting and rumours have Trouba wanting out. What more would the Red Wings need to give up? Does their own 2nd round pick this year do it?

If he's going to sign an extension in Detroit. Green, B+ Prospect, and a 1st would have to be traded

Some Wings fans will lose their minds but to me Hronek and the Wings 2019 2nd is fair if Trouba is signing with Detroit. Maybe the Jets add a mid to late round pick to make the pieces even going both ways but that's it.

No way the Red Wings give up a 1st round pick here.
