Description

Rumour is Zaitsev isn't returning to the Leafs. If the Leafs can't trade him, is Zaitsev to walk away from 19.5m? No Zaitsev and no future cap hit might be the best scenario for the Leafs long term. Made roster with Zaitsev's 3m signing bonus as part of this seasons cap.
Might need another trade so as Brown for a pick to be cap compliant. This team isn't as good as last years with no Kadri, Hainsey and Gardiner. But it's a tough cap year with Marleau and Zaitsev

Zaitsev requested a trade. He is not retiring. The philly trade is bad. If kadri’s value is a 3rd pairing Dman then maybe it would be better to keep him. He’s pretty good defensively... put him on RD.

A trade is possible. He’s not a terrible player.

But to go off what you said, if there’s no trade, leafs would either bite the bullet and keep playing him/healthy scratch him, or buy him out if they’re that desperate.
