Description
Just messing around - for Habs - Canes, it depends on who each team is targeting in the draft of course, but in this scenario the Canes jump up 13 spots in the first round of the draft, Habs slide back in the first but move up in the 2nd round to go for drafting depth. There is also a swap of 2 big former 1st rounders that haven't quite found their game (and perhaps never will above the AHL level) to give them fresh starts. Canes aren,'t specifically in cap trouble but Habs have deeper pockets to carry the cost of burying Darling in the AHL (or, with some luck, he finds some form like Niemi did for a season). Jake Bean is more NHL ready than Cale Fleury and probably a better overall player, but Fleury still projects to be good, is younger and a useful return considering the Canes have a logjam on D. Taking Darling's contract makes up for the difference of Bean vs. Fleury. Habs have too many RD but not enough LD so they are willing to part with a good young player, Bean is a good young puck moving LD.

Getting rid of Lucic contract is obviously important for the Oil, and here they can ditch Manning while they are at it, in return for a couple of unexceptional but young and cheap forwards who can skate really well, and some later picks. But the Oilers give up a 2020 first, maybe they'll bank on it being a late one if they are able to improve with new management and new players. Habs flip Lucic to the Sens for some dead weight contracts and send them a pick for good measure. I guess the picks and amounts retained are a bit negotiable. Manning, Condon, and Weise are all buried contracts that expire next season taking 5 million of the cap right away that can help re-sign Domi and others.

That is obviously horrid for Ottawa. Taking all the cap and money having Lucic for a third round pick. Lucic assuredly doesn't waive for theSens.

I don't know if they decline while laughing, they move way up in the first round of the draft and shed their worst contract, and it costs them a promising but unproven AHLer for whom they have no room on the roster right now anyway.

Carolina trade is way more complicated than it needs to be. Trading a 1st and two 2nds, for a 1st and two 2nds?
