I dont hate this deal at all from a sens perspective. Waht about instead of Smith, Ottawa gives you Boedker and Condon. Higher cap hit this year for the ducks but no salary committed after this year. You could buy out Condon or he could back up Gibson for the year (dont have to resign Miller) and Boedker fits more of what the Ducks are trying to do (be fast).

Does perry have a Ntc or nmc? If so why would he wanna go to ottawa. If anything he wants to go to a contender which would be half retained salary or bought out so he can go to wherever

Why is $4M in cap space worth Ritchie and a first? Also the biggest reason for the Perry trade is to open up a roster spot. Bringing back Smith just keeps the logjam on the wing.

This is an alternative to buying him out. Smith is serviceable. And still allows the ducks to bring up the young guys.
