That is a pretty bad return for the pens on that Letang trade. I don't think they would go for that.

Letang for Larsson, Yamamoto and a first is conceivable, but not that package.

Why would you sign a guy to play #2RW after he has two good years and then pay him only $1M? I can think of at least three teams that need RWs who would jump at the chance tp pay him twice that.

Did you get Matthew Benning and Brandon Manning mixed up? The only backup you'd get for the latter is Scott Darling.

I based it off them wanting to dump cap and clear some space. While its not the best return they save close to $2M and get an NHL Dman with less term and a decent prospect, id consider upping the pick to a 2nd.

Letang is a 32 year old dman with an injury history, i wouldnt be offering a 1st for him as the risk/reward isnt there for that option at this time. If the Oilers are regularly making the post season and there pick is in the back 3rd of the draft then maybe.

Manning was picked simply because he wouldn't make the Oilers or Panthers. Hell i'd send Benning to if they wanted him, the guy isnt gonna making the oilers by mid season once Bear and Jones show up. If FLA is pursuing Bob & Panarin then they will need more then the current $21M in space if they plan on filling out their roster.

Letang was a top 5 dman in the league last year. Even if other teams don't see it, the pens do. No way they are "dumping" him to save 2 mil in cap space so they then use that to sign a nobody. Only way they move him is if the return is impossible to turn down. This return is quite easy to say "thank you, next".
