What's the benefit to Vancouver of taking on the extra year of Lucic's contract?

That extra year will only be 3M against the cap. He is better than eriksson so they get a better player for 3 years for the same price but take 3M against the cap for it in the 4th year

Seems pretty even to me

So you've got a winger who's going to cost $3M and who in that fourth year highly unlikely to record 20 points (which is what he chalked up LAST year), and that's a benefit?

He is going to do better than eriksson did in his role with the canucks for 3 years. To pay that difference off van takes a cap hit of 3M in the 4th year

That’s the benefit

Except that last year, being one year younger, Eriksson played in more games and recorded 29 points to Lucic's 20, and Lucic is on a steep decline whereas Eriksson's performance improved last year over his previous two years. I'd be willing to bet that Lucic's totals for the next four years don't equal Eriksson's for the next three. In any event, you're asking Vancouver to take the chance that the reverse will be true, and I don't think that history is on your side.
