Description
Buchnievich is one of those players where figuring out his value is really tough. He’s had his fair share of growing pain in the NHL. A lot of credit should be given to Alain Vigneault for causing that. But last season, he really started going off when playing with Mika Zibenejad. As much as it would suck to ruin their chemistry, we need cap room and this is a good return for someone who I believe will be a great player on McDavid’s wing.
Since Lavoie was recently drafted, I don’t know how likely they are to trade him. I simply read an article on Edmonton’s top prospects where he was ranked at 9, and because he was a player I wanted at pick 20 (when the Rangers has it), I inserted him. If he is to hot of a commodity to trade away just yet, then Jesse Puljujarvi can be inserted in the same trade. Namestnikov was sort of a throw-in. His departure gives us cap room and and Edmonton a 3C. If he has interest in resigning, they could lock him up to a 3x3 extension which would be good for both sides.
Kreider could either be traded before the season starts (if an extension is not reached) or resigned long term. There should not be uncertainty going into this season with players contracts. (Jesper Fast’s contract will be minor and he is loyal so we can resign him whenever).
Panarin plays 2nd line to keep Zibenejad and Kreider’s chemistry intact. I don’t think he would mind because him and Patrick Kane played on the 2nd line in Chicago.
Andersson is kept on the AHL because 4th line minutes will do him no good, so he can develop his game in Hartford and prove himself as an NHL center if and when someone gets hurt.
In the trade, I forgot to specify if the condition was for goals or points. The answer is points.

Sorry..but you have wayyyy overthought this. While trading Namestnikov is the right move, trading Buchnevich is absolutely wrong. As a Ranger fan, I invite you to take another swing at this. Perhaps choose a different team to trade with, and don't grasp at straws.

According to Brett Cygalis of the New York Post, both Vlad Namestnikov and Pavel are on the block. Don’t know how reputable that is, but if that’s the case then I’d be fine with this. We get a great prospect and most likely a 2nd round pick. With the players we already have, Namestnikov wouldn’t be too big of a loss. I chose Edmonton to trade with because an Edmonton reporter wrote an article suggesting a Buchnievich and Namestnikov trade (not this exact trade) and I liked that idea.

I think it's a swing and a miss here. Buchnevich is a 40+ point player (or the pace of in an 82 game season) every year of his career. He's a very good second line forward that has the potential to put up 1st line numbers. I don't think edmonton can afford both Buch and Namestnikov, and as a rangers fan i would want Puljujarvi and Lavoie for Buch and Namest
