the Stamkos signing aside, I like the Hopkins for Ellis deal, as it helps both teams. Jarnrock would be a good 3rd liner, although Im thinking the Preds might not want to add that much salary.
I dont see the Eberle deal at all though, hes shown good chemistry with McDavid, so trading him is only slightly less likely than the Oil signing Stamkos. I doubt Ference returns to the Oil, could be bought out or buried. Another veteran dman ( Hamhuis/Russell/Demers?) is what they need more than anything.

Regarding the trades, don't really like them. You trade Nuge, Ebs and Yakupov and don't really get a solid peice coming back. Ellis is nice, but he's a small guy who's had success on a stacked Nashville defense.
I personal don't see him being a top a 2 way top 3 guy.

Toews, Kane, and Panarin only spent 73:08 together at 5v5, according to Puckalytics.com's 'Super W.O.W.Y' tool.

This roster is just to see how a Stamkos to Edmonton scenario would play out; I felt they'd needed to clear Eberle's Cap to make that happen and not be screwed Cap-wise a couple years down the line. I suppose I could have added more to the Carolina side of the deal, but I felt was the framework of the trade was more important than the details.

I didn't buy out Ference because he's only got a year left on his contract, and the Oilers could afford it for this year. There wouldn't have been any point in buying him out and having the buyout on the books for the next couple seasons, since I could be done with it in one year just by not re-signing him. I didn't send him down because, IIRC, you aren't allowed to do that with NMCs. Plus, as you mentioned, the team could use some veteran leadership.

I didn't sign a guy like Hamhuis because he'd take up a roster spot on an already full Defense, taking playing time away from a young player. The target years for this team would be a couple years down the road, so I'd rather go with the young Defensemen and have them develop than sign a veteran to be good for right now.
