Trading within the division like a boss. Vanek gets a bonus-laden contract because he is 35. Phaneuf gets a homecoming with Valimaki out for a while. Phillips makes the team as 4RW.

That might be a five year deal for Tzachuk under the new RFA structure. Phaneuf? Is he even up to NHL standards? Gotta think he stays retired in California.

He was the first guy I could think of as a #7 dman because he started his career with CGY. Maybe he goes for one more season before calling it quits.

Gross giving him to our rival that'll be competing with us for the division title, but it's one of the teams with space that could use a middle six forward.

Vanek is an interesting idea as he'd be a goal scoring RHS that would help with our PP2. As for Phaneuf, I don't think the organization would bring him back given the rumours surrounding his trade to the Leafs that he was a problem in the room. However, for nostalgia's sake perhaps he's a better fit than signing MacDonald after his PTO. Personally, the guy I hope they'd bring back is Schlemko (Phaneuf vs. Schlemko - 3 years)
