Description
First person to comment that both teams are paying too much without reading that the description states its NOT for every single asset being shown, should be Eddard Stark'd......
Trades
1.
MTL
  1. Cogliano, Andrew
  2. Comeau, Blake
  3. Dellandrea, Ty
  4. Harley, Thomas
  5. Honka, Julius [Reserve List]
  6. Johns, Stephen
  7. Oettinger, Jake
  8. Oleksiak, Jamie
  9. Robertson, Jason
  10. Tufte, Riley
  11. 2020 1st round pick (DAL)
  12. 2021 1st round pick (DAL)
  13. 2021 2nd round pick (DAL)
  14. 2021 3rd round pick (DAL)
Additional Details:
- ONE OF Coglaino/Comeau/Johns/Oleksiak. This player is simply to offset the cap coming back for Tatar. Not a cap dump but just to make sure Dallas doesn't go over the cap this year or next.

- Whichever combo of picks and or prospects. (ONCE AGAIN, NOT EVERYTHING SHOWN)
DAL
  1. Tatar, Tomas ($2,400,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Dallas is right at the point of having to choose to go all in. Too many aging players on the team. Tatar would be an excellent addition to their top 6 5vs5 since Pavelski is starting to show his age and should be used in top 9 minutes with PP only. Tatar at 2.4M for this year and next coupled with one of the players mentioned coming out of their lineup, their cap situation wouldn't even flinch.

Not to mention that they have built up a decent prospect pool that they can afford a trade like this now.

Dallas is a healthy lineup and a TDL pickup away from being able to beat anyone in the league in the playoffs. They truly should go for it before Benn/Radulov/Pavelski/Perry/Bishop etc finally hit that mid to late 30's wall where they are simply not good enough for their contracts.
2.
MTL
  1. Eakin, Cody
  2. Elvenes, Lucas
  3. Hague, Nicolas
  4. Holden, Nick
  5. Korczak, Kaedan [Reserve List]
  6. Krebs, Peyton
  7. Merrill, Jon
  8. Roy, Nicolas
  9. 2020 1st round pick (VGK)
  10. 2020 2nd round pick (VGK)
  11. 2020 2nd round pick (PIT)
  12. 2020 3rd round pick (VGK)
  13. 2020 3rd round pick (NJD)
Additional Details:
- ONE OF Holden/Merrill/Eakin as the cap offset for the remainder of this year. So that Vegas can stay cap compliant. Not necessarily a cap dump, just a cap offset.

- Whichever combination of picks and prospects shown. i included all of them to choose from. (NOT EVERYTHING SHOWN WILL BE PART OF THE TRADE)
VGK
  1. Petry, Jeff ($2,750,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Vegas makes the most sense IMO. They're a team with enough picks to burn and are going all in with this team every year going forward.

I think they could use another top 4 RHD to push others down in the lineup and slot guys better. He plays both PK and PP and would be for this year's run and next years run as well. They wouldn't need to lock themselves into a long term contract and with the Habs retaining 50%, he'd be a bargain.

this is a mess. "whichever combination of picks and prospects" is a cop-out because there's a humongous gradient of values between asset packages in each of those trades. this doesn't remotely tell us what you actually want back from each of those teams. i doubt you say yes to cogliano + 3rd for tatar or merril + 2nd for petry. you have to own your evaluation of each player's value when proposing trades--the "i don't know, you tell me" strategy doesn't move the needle for anyone.

Uuughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh..........Really?

As opposed to playing the "exact perfect ratio of perfect value" game that both fan bases will not agree with anyway? ...... Gimme a break..... I gave a very specific amount of assets and did not say anywhere that "I don't know, you tell me". I have a pretty darn good idea personally what the value would be, but i don't need some random person who probably doesn't know jack squat about player valuation on the internet telling me what it should be..... This isn't a negotiation. Whatever value we'd agree upon won't make it happen. Gets us nowhere and only serves to clutter the discussion further. I don't care what the return is, I just want it to be fair for both sides. So whatever that is, I'd be good with it.

I gave template on how to go about both trades. If someone values a certain player more than the other, so be it. As long as it fits the profile of the assets mentioned, its fine for the discussion. The point is that those are the two Habs players that should be traded this year.
