Don't kid yourself about including Erickson in this deal. That's not enough of a reason to throw out a 1st for a player with term left on a deal. Don't mistake the Leafs' situation with Marleau as the same situation in Vancouver with Erickson. The Canucks should have enough salary cap space next year that should definitely not have to give up a 1st to get rid of him like that.

when Hughes and Pettersson need to be re-signed Ericksson will have 1 year left on his deal. VAN could then just buy him out and take the extra year @ $2m. at the same time Edler, Benn, Baertschi and Sutter all come off the books + 4 million in relief from the buyout (that's $20 million) more than enough to move around and resign Hughes, Pettersson, Pearson and Demko
