Description

Why overpay Ottawa for rentals. I think these 2 players fit similar roles without costing us a 1st or prospect we need to keep. Would also take Irwin as another option for a 6/7th D-Man, or Bonino with some retained salary.

If NSH sells at the deadline, I'd be good with this. If you want Irwin instead that's not a problem (it gives NYI an extra half mill in cap space, and NSH can probably get a better return for Hamhuis in a separate trade than they could for Irwin). Bonino would cost a little more than Smith right now.

With the way the 3rd line has looked the past 2 games (small sample size I know) I think the real need is a top 6 winger. Barzal doesnt play very well with eberle and lee and if we are going anywhere we have to get him a line mate who works such as a Palmieri or Toffoli as a cheaper option
