No it's awful for the Leafs. Would want your team want to be stuck with Subban and a 4.5m cap hit for the next two full seasons.

The trades do nothing to help the Leafs now and certainly hurts their future.

Don't entirely agree.

Devils advocate: Simmonds replaces Johnsson in the middle-6 and is a physical winger who can chip in offensively. Expiring deal won't cost 5M if he fits and wants to resign. Subban is an upgrade on Ceci and I believe in his resurgence next season. Leafs medical staff will fix the back. He first Keefe's system and could be a great PP2 add. Barrie for a young D with size who could fill the Muzzin role if he doesn't return isn't a bad return. Carrier is a physical fourth liner with speed who can chip in a few points from the fourth line.

The Manson trade is probably happening, tbh. I actually believe that. I can't see what else the Leafs have for a top 4 RHD.
