I think the Canes would have considered this earlier, not now. Two UFAs with no protection for the best young defensemen in the AHL...pass.

You never know. If Carolina is truly trying to win, then this a move that makes them deeper at the two most important positions for a playoff run. The price is high, yes, I’m sure some sort of extension could be discussed prior to the deal. Either way, Carolina keeps both first rounders to replenish the loss in Bean.

I think Bean is this teams 3rd pairing LHD need year. It’s much more likely they do use the premium picks to bring in a defenseman for this year.
