The only way Barzal signs that is if you counterfeit his signature.

All he has to do is wait for an offer sheet @ 10.5M from another team and NYI will have to match it.

To be fair, it's not Boychuk's cap hit that gets lower - rather it's his actual salary.

The cap hit is still that $6M for the rest of his contract.

Not only that, i simply don't see Yzerman taking on another big contract like that without a serious asset coming back. Detroit is marred with bad contracts, and although they have the cap room, getting the Wings to bite is gonna cost.
