So the rationale here...

Dallas desperately needs an RW to bring some offense and it seems like Honka isn't ever going to play for them so there might be a match here even though the 3rd might be overkill.

Honka then becomes a cheap defense option for a team in need of...well...cheap everything.

Montour gets 1 year then gets dumped at the deadline to make sure there's room for Dahlin and Jokiharju extensions. He's replaceable.

Buff is in a tough spot. Not a lot of assets that are expendable that can bring in solid top 6 assets. And not a lot of assets that are expendable to bring in high ceiling picks or prospects. This is that no-man's land 8th seed-ish area between being a cup contender and in a rebuild that no one wants to be in.

I honestly don't know if there's any ground you can gain without blowing up somewhere else. Curious to see what Botts does.

Not blaming him. To get value you usually have to give value. Most other GMs aren't Botterill who is just going to give assets away for nothing.
