Ridiculous contract for Bert and almost no way Byfield is ready for the NHL next year.
I love how people say "Bert isn't worth that much", but have nothing to back it up with. Let me steal a breakdown I've posted previously (you can see that conversation here:
https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/322560&post_id=1379000):
Player A is 26 years old, and since 2016-2017 has played in 291 games, scored 138 points, for a .47PPG average.
Player B is 25 years old, and since 2016-2017 has played in 199 games, scored 119 points, for a .60PPG average.
Player C is 24 years old, and since 2016-2017 has played in 249 games, scored 150 points, for a .60PPG average.
Player A is Tom Wilson, he of the 6 year, 5.166m/year contract, 6.5% cap hit
Player B is Tyler Bertuzzi, who you just gave a 3 year, 4.5mm/year contract to, which is a 5.5% cap hit.
Player C is Nick Schmaltz, he of the 7 year, 5.85m/year contract, 7.36% cap hit
Bert should get about a 6.75-7% cap hit contract, which would put him around 5.5mm/year.
