Description
Ideally with a rising cap Leafs would be able to package Johnsson/Kerfott or even Kappy with Dermott to get a decent Top 4 Dman, but with a flat cap, and what is sure to be a unique off-season, I see something like below being more likely. Dermott has a high ceiling, and would be part of a pain in the ass shutdown pair with Muzzin. Allowing Rielly and Holl to take majority of OZ draws and put up some points.

I didn't put al ot of thought into Johnsson destination, more just showing Leafs can be cap compliant with one move, and I know Wings are loaded with picks.

Agian, IMO the defense and forwards on the team I constructed is better balanced than this. You asking a lot of Dermott to play in the top pairing. And why is the goat who has 168 NHL games played only taking a qualifying offer. Ill stick with my squad

Detroit isn't giving up the 1st pick of the 2nd round on Johnsson maybe a late 3rd or 4th round pick. Does he have any points this season that don't involve the big 4 this season? Plus he will be coming major knee surgery. Detroit declines.

Rielly >> Severson
Dermott >> Liljegren

The other 4 are the same, so I'm really struggling to see how your defence is better than the one I have here.

Dermott has proven capable of playing top 4 minutes down the stretch. Typically players missing the entrie off-season coming off major surgery struggle to start the season. Aside from his first few months of this season, he's surpassed any expectations of him.

He's physical, moves the puck well, and excels at one of Toronto's biggest weaknesses in shutting down zone entries.

Please explain to me why Liljegren or Juulsen are better options for a team pushing to be contenders.

Call it a 3rd then. Thought the explanation made it clear that I didn't put much thought on where he was going, but anyways...

Dude, the Leafs struggled to score last year at 5on5. Because of injuries the bottom six was brutal. And you want to just give away Johnsson for a pick and insert Agostino. That makes them better. Yes, the roster I have is better balanced scoring and defensively.
