Description
3C remains a question/weakness, but overall team speed and potential transition game are improved. I'm concerned with bringing back Smith, but I don't think Holland can afford an upgrade this season, and he will want to maintain the leadership presence Smith brings. As it is, Smith will want a raise but Holland will try to hold him to the same terms as last season. Green gets two years on a team friendly contract, sheltering Bouchard and opening the opportunity to trade Larsson by the deadline, move up Bear and Green, and slot Bouchard/Jones on the bottom right side. Gags gets a courtesy contract so he can end his playing career where he started it, and he does provide some depth and versatility. Benson and Marody are the first forward prospects on the call-up list; the defensive prospects are even deeper this season.

Montreal doesn't want Jujhar. Especially considering Montreal is giving up a 3rd round pick.

You don't like the trade, fair enough.

I opted for Montreal because they have tiny forwards and Washington's 2020 3rd round pick is practically a 4th round pick. It seems reasonable to suggest the 81st overall pick, is probably a pretty inexpensive cost to acquire a 25 year-old depth player who has already played 218 NHL games. The odds of the prospect selected with the 81st overall pick playing 200 NHL games are less than 15%. If Bergeron doesn't want a big, youngish depth forward (4C is perhaps his most effective role) who is a particularly good penalty killer, willing to defend team mates, and playing under an inexpensive and expiring contract there is quite likely another GM who is.
HabsForEver, arab05 and yamahut liked this.
