Description

Flat cap + No CBO puts a premium on cap space - which is an enormous (and perhaps the only dispensable) asset NJ has right now. Given GM and coaching uncertainty, NJ will not be able to secure top-end UFAs so they rely on the draft/off-season moves to improve defense and wingers.

Neal's massive contract is probably worth a 1st+ given no CBO - so add in JP. I think Neal provides some value as a depth RW and a PP specialist - an area where the Devils made improvements but still struggle. Simmonds departure opens up a spot on PP1.

I saw the Maata trade posted earlier - I'm a fan, but given the CBO/Cap status, I think he comes cheaper than a 3rd. Maybe CHI scoffs and holds.

Overall cap situation: Zajac's massive $5.75M ends this year. Plenty of space to re-up Gusev. It will be very interesting to have all of Subban's, Maata's, and Schnieder's contracts all ending in the same year (~$18!!) - in time to manage some expiring ELCs.

I think the Hawks would take a 4th. Nothing against Maatta but we’re going to need some cap space to re-sign some guys

Could work with a 4th conditional to become a third depending on some arbitrary stat like games played.

No thanks. We could get more for Puljujarvi and if nobody wants Neal, we could buy him out. It’s not the best option but I don’t want to lose Puljujarvi for nothing.
