I can't take all the credit here. The idea came to me when I was commenting on an AGM posted by @LEAFS_AND_SENS_FAN so full credit them for stirring this 3-way creativity.
It goes without saying that I foresee a number of issues. First, the general rule is usually that you don't deal superstars within a division. Two, Matthews signing bonus money would need to be taken care of before any such deal happened. Three, even though the Leafs rid themselves of their top contracts and AAVs, they will run into a similar issue with Barkov when his current deal is up, so perhaps it's just moving the inevitable, especially when the NHL expects a flat cap for the next few seasons. I chose Colorado as the third partner because they are in the West, they are flush with assets, and specifically, assets on the defense. They also have cap space and could certainly use a player like Huberdeau no question. Anyway, let's get into it.
Leaving TORONTO: Auston Matthews, Andreas Johnsson, Timothy Liljegren
Arriving to TORONTO: Alex Barkov, Ryan Graves, Conor Timmins, 2020 1st round pick (COL)
Leaving FLORIDA: Alex Barkov, Jonathan Huberdeau, Mackenzie Weegar
Arriving to FLORIDA: Auston Matthews, Andreas Johnsson, Timothy Liljegren, J.T Compher
Leaving COLORADO: Ryan Graves, Conor Timmins, J.T. Compher, 2020 1st round pick (COL)
Arriving to COLORAD: Jonathan Huberdeau, Mackenzie Weegar
Ps. I know I did not sign Dermott and/or make any deal for Bracco, etc. I was just focusing on the 3-way trade and displaying what that might look like for a 2020-21 Leafs' lineup.
Wow that's a huge trade. I like it from COLs perspective, get a huge upgrade on offense with a very nice cap hit for 3 years. Sign me up.
(also I think you forgot to add Compher into the deal like you explained in the description)
Haha thanks and yes, it'd be huge. I didn't add Compher because it's like Colorado is trading him straight to Florida (it's hard to show a 3-way deal on an AGM). I was just trying to display how things would look from a Leafs' perspective, but I could, or someone else could, show AGMs of this 3-way deal from Florida and Colorad's roster/lineup perspective.
That is a vwry fast no from Florida, they trade their 1C for a more expensive lateral player and theyr best winger for nothing
So maybe add another piece moving to Florida from Toronto then and/or move COL's 1st to Florida? 3-ways are not a perfect science by any means. Just trying to think a little outside the box.

Ok first problem is Florida is trying to cut back on spending and both Barkovs and Huberdeau's contracts are on the cheap end for what they bring to the table (top 10 center and LW both under 6M). Like if you add up their contracts its only slightly more than Matthews alone.
Like a fair value swap for Toronto to get both would be along the lines of Matthews + Marner for Hub + Barkov + Weegar.
I get that you are trying to think of something different but the idea is kinda flawed from the start.
